President Donald Trump trolled former President Barack Obama on Thursday over the former president's past stances on illegal immigration.
"I strongly believe that we should take on, once and for all, the issue of illegal immigration," Obama tweeted in 2011.
"I totally agree!" Trump tweeted.
The tweet comes as Trump is working to secure funding for the border wall that he promised supporters during his campaign and has repeatedly promised throughout his presidency.
The proposed border wall is one of the measures that the president wants to use to curtail the flow of illegal immigration into the U.S., which studies have shown cost American taxpayers over $100 billion per year.
"The swelling population of illegal immigrants and their kids is costing American taxpayers $135 billion a year, the highest ever, driven by free medical care, education and a huge law enforcement bill, according to the most authoritative report on the issue yet," the Washington Examiner reported. "And despite claims from pro-illegal immigration advocates that the aliens pay significant off-setting taxes back to federal, state and local treasuries, the Federation for American Immigration Reform report tallied just $19 billion, making the final hit to taxpayers about $116 billion."
