A new poll found that among “entertainers,” the most divisive celebrity in America is Beyonce. The Morning Consult poll found Beyonce ranked atop the list, followed by radio host and TV host Sean Hannity and radio host Rush Limbaugh, then Ellen DeGeneres, LeBron James, Jay-Z, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Rihanna and George Clooney.
It is worth noting that only two of the names on the list were politically conservative, Hannity and Limbaugh, while the bulk of the divisive figures were politically on the left. Morning Consult noted, “Only two of the top 25 most politically divisive celebrities were more loved by Republicans than by Democrats: conservative hosts Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh.”
Beyonce has made political statements that may have contributed to the perception of her as divisive, whether it was her celebrating the Black Panthers at the Super Bowl that triggered a police boycott of her Miami Concert, describing police as “robbers of lives,” having her dancers “shot down” as a reference to supposed police brutality at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards, or wearing a Black Panther Party-themed outfit to the Grammys.
