On Monday, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) utterly humiliated herself by releasing a report from Professor Carlos Bustamante of Stanford University stating that there was a possibility that Warren had a Native American ancestor anywhere from six to ten generations ago. According to The Boston Globe:
He concluded that “the vast majority” of Warren’s ancestry is European, but he added that “the results strongly support the existence of an unadmixed Native American ancestor.” Bustamante calculated that Warren’s pure Native American ancestor appears in her family tree “in the range of 6-10 generations ago.”
The report states that Warren could be just 1/1024th Native American. What’s more, the study was based not on Native American DNA, but on Mexican, Peruvian, and Colombian DNA.
The media ran with the headline that Warren was indeed correct – that she did have Native American ancestry. Which is amazing, considering that even the most racist groups on Earth do not consider you to be a member of a minority group if you had a minority ancestor 300 years ago. Nonetheless, CNN headlined, “Elizabeth Warren releases DNA test with ‘strong evidence’ of Native American ancestry.” The Daily Beast’s headline was similarly friendly: “Elizabeth Warren Fights Trump’s ‘Pocahontas’ Taunt With DNA Test Proving Native-American Roots.”
So the same media who say that two X chromosomes don't make you a woman now say that a Native American ancestor 10 generations ago makes you Native American. Got it.
As a refresher, Warren didn't merely claim a long-ago Native American ancestor. Here’s what Warren claimed:
So her mother was so Native American that her parents had to elope to escape racism. And then Warren claimed late in her career that she was Native American: according to The Boston Globe, Warren “had her ethnicity changed from white to Native American at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she taught from 1987 to 1995, and at Harvard University Law School, where she was a tenured faculty member starting in 1995.”
Yet now Warren has come forth suggesting that President Trump owes her money. Why? Because he stated at a rally last year that he’d pay $1 million to her favorite charity if she could prove she was Native American:
But the test didn’t show that she was Native American. In fact, it showed she was 0.09% Native American, which is about half the rate of the average American. So Trump should sign her a check for $976.56, or about 1/1024th of $1 million, and call it a day.
What’s most telling about this episode is the absolute confidence Warren had that the media would cover for her garbage story. And she was right. Of course they did. But she’s a ridiculous liar on this score, and Trump will mash her over it.
