A speechwriter for President Trump has been fired for attending an event featuring prominent white nationalists in 2016.
According to HuffPo, "Darren Beattie was terminated after the White House learned he had appeared on a panel with British white nationalist Peter Brimelow at the 2016 Mencken Club conference in the Baltimore area, CNN reported Sunday."
Beattie had been questioned by White House officials about the conference before being asked to abdicate his post. In his defense, the disgraced speechwriter said he was no racist and only presented an "academic" talk on "The Intelligentsia and the Right" while speaking at the conference.
"I said nothing objectionable and stand by my remarks," Beattie said in a statement.
White House spokesman Hogan Gidley confirmed to CNN on Friday that "Mr. Beattie no longer works at the White House."
Peter Brimelow has written extensively about "racial nationalism" while lamenting on several occasions about the death of a white majority.
