President Trump took a moment Wednesday night to congratulate a couple of Republican candidates for their big primary wins and to mock one "phony" Democratic senator for her campaign antics.
McCaskill, who is expected to face Missouri's Attorney General Josh Hawley in November, admitted on Tuesday that she used a private plane for her three-day "RV tour" of the state last month. The admission has resulted in some political blowback, which has the already edgy Democrats fretting even more about her crucial seat, which Republicans are particularly targeting. Trump couldn't resist.
"Senator Claire McCaskill of the GREAT State of Missouri flew around in a luxurious private jet during her RV tour of the state," Trump wrote. "RV’s are not for her. People are really upset, so phony! Josh Hawley should win big, and has my full endorsement."
McCaskill currently holds a razor-thin 1.7-point lead on Hawley, according to Real Clear Politics' average.
Trump followed his trolling of McCaskill with endorsements of two Republican congressional primary winners: Nevada's Danny Tarkanian, son of legendary basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian, and Kevin Cramer, who easily won in North Dakota.
"Congratulations to Danny Tarkanian on his big GOP primary win in Nevada. Danny worked hard an got a great result. Looking good in November!" Trump wrote.
"Congratulations to @KevinCramer on his huge win in North Dakota. We need Kevin in the Senate, and I strongly endorse him. Heidi voted NO on our Tax Cuts, and always will vote no when we need her. Kevin is strong on Crime & Borders, big on Cutting Taxes!" he tweeted.
