Phyllis Schlafly, an iconic national leader within conservative movement since the mid-1960s, just threw her support behind the controversial Republican frontrunner Donald Trump, declaring that the real-estate mogul is the “last hope” to save America and “defeat the Kingmakers.”

“He does look like he’s the last hope [for America],” Schlafly told WND. “We don’t hear anybody saying what he’s saying.”

The best-selling author and prominent leader within the pro-family movement stated that both the Republican and Democrat “working man and woman have been betrayed,” and that change was a necessity.

Schlafly, now 91-years-old, highlighted the passing of the outlandish omnibus bill announced by Speaker Ryan as evidence of the “betrayal” felt by those who politically lean to the right; adding that the bill was “evidence of why the American people are suffering at the hands of their own government.”

“In order to avoid a government shutdown, a cowardly threat from an incompetent president, the elected Republicans in Congress threw in the towel and showed absolutely no budget discipline,” Schlafly bluntly said.

Schlafly explained that Trump would likely be nominated in reaction to such “betrayal” because he’s seemingly the “only one” with any “fight.”

“It sounds like Donald Trump is the only one who has any fight in him,” Schlafly added. “He will fight for the issues that we really care about and are very hot at the present time, such as the immigration issue. I don’t see anyone else who’s eager to fight.”

The conservative leader added that Trump's political foes who are currently attacking him, should be “lining up behind him.”

“They’re probably jealous of the amount of press coverage he gets,” she stated. “But the reason he gets so much press coverage is the grassroots are fed up with people who are running things, and they do want a change.”

Schlafly also noted that Republican frontrunner's quick and to-the-point slogan, “Make America Great Again,” “really resonates” with people looking for change.

Immigration is key for Schlafly; Breitbart News described the issue as “the defining and most important battle."

Schlafly discussed how our country would be destroyed by the current visa system and advocated for a “pause on all new immigration.”

“We’re a sovereign country and if we don’t want to let anybody in, we don’t have to let anybody in,” added Schlafly. “We closed our doors [during the mid-20th Century]… and those are the years when we became a great country. We don’t need to open our doors for anybody.”

Trump is certainly not lacking in support at the moment, but the support of Schlafly will only add to his unexpected steady success.
