Always one to inject deep thoughts into any difficult situation, Chelsea Handler is now accusing Donald Trump of "literally and figuratively" setting the wildfires raging across the Los Angeles area.
Nearly 200,000 people have been evacuated and more than 200 have lost their homes to the brush fires which have engulfed the Sepulveda Pass in the Santa Monica mountains and now threaten places like Hollywood and Bel Aire. According to local news, parts of west Los Angeles are without power, and local government officials are encouraging further evacuations as high winds are expected to move into the area overnight.
But as former Obama chief-of-staff Rahm Emanuel used to say, never let a good crisis go to waste.
Just evacuated my house. It’s like Donald Trump is setting the world on fire. Literally and figuratively. Stay safe everyone. Dark times.— Chelsea Handler (@chelseahandler) December 6, 2017
That's right. Literally.
Now, we obviously feel for Chelsea. Evacuating your home and leaving your belongings behind under threat of major devastation isn't easy for anyone. It's downright terrifying. Buuuuut as troublesome as President Donald Trump may be to someone who vehemently disagrees with everything he does, Trump probably didn't hunker down in a national forest and set an entire swath of land ablaze.
The strangest thing about Chelsea's missive is that it puts her directly at odds with some of her closest leftist colleagues, like Neera Tanden, the president of the Center for American Progress, who, when she found out one of Rupert Murdoch's vacation homes was among the properties destroyed by the wildfire, urged the fire on.
