At least one and possibly two female military corpsman at the Naval Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, allegedly posted pictures of newborn babies and made videos in which they handled them like puppets dancing to music.
In addition to the outrageous treatment of newborns, Corpsman Allyson Thompson has been accused of posting a picture on Snapchat of a newborn as she flipped the baby off, along with the caption, “How I currently feel about these mini Satans.” Another corpsman, Joanie Barrett, reportedly participated in the incidents.
A military spouse who discovered the photos and videos reported them to the Naval Hospital. Her Facebook update stated:
After me and my mom tried getting someone on the phone for like an hour, she finally got someone who was over her and it’s been reported.. all screenshots and video was sent to her phone via text and she has talked to her CO and they’re taking the next steps of investigating it and she is being punished.
The posting of pictures and possible shaking of the newborns was a huge violation of HIPAA.
Naval Hospital Jacksonville's Commanding Officer stated:
We are aware of a video/photos posted online. It's outrageous, unacceptable, incredibly unprofessional, and cannot be tolerated. We have identified those involved — two junior enlisted corpsmen (not nurses). They have been removed from providing patient care and they will be handled by the legal system and military justice. We've notified the patient's parents.
