Today marks the 10th anniversary of the MSNBC show Morning Joe, and the two hosts — recently engaged couple Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough — celebrated the day with a special broadcast from Saturday Night Live‘s legendary Studio 8H at Rockefeller Center.
The show featured numerous guests, including New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, New York Mayor Bill De Blasio, and even former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. Also on hand was Arizona Sen. John McCain, who took the opportunity for a bit of tongue-in-cheek jabs at President Trump for previously blasting the show as "fake news."
Well, congratulations, Joe and Mika, for 10 years of fake news and deceiving the American people. You've had a remarkable success. I'd like to congratulate you, because you have deceived even me from time to time, and of course I've known Joe for a long time and how he has deceived people also.
So I congratulate you on ten years of information, of knowledge, and making the American people aware of the challenges we face. You are a great American success story. Congratulations, keep it up. I hope that I'm not on your program soon.
The cheeky congratulations prompted uncomfortable laughter from the hosts and applause from the audience.
"That's why we love him!" Joe happily exclaimed.
Morning Joe has been a favorite target of President Trump, who has routinely called the show "fake news" for their increasing criticism of him and made the fight personal when he insulted Mika Brzezinski with his infamous "face lift" tweets from earlier this year.
The tweets set off a wave of media coverage that "Crazy Mika" and "Pscyho Joe" rode to the show's best ratings ever.
