Yesterday, a University Banned Yoga for ‘Cultural Appropriation.’ Here’s What Some Others Want Banned Next.

On Monday, the University of Ottawa “suspended” its free yoga classes at the Centre for Students with Disabilities on campus because of complaints from the Ottawa Student Federation branding yoga as “culturally appropriative.” As a symbolic counter-punch, rational-minded people have slammed the outlandish hyper-sensitivity of the left by one-upping the university with their own call to ban algebra via petition because it “appropriates” the ancient Babylonian culture.

Bill Hammond, a columnist at the New York Daily News called on people to “do their part” as he tweeted the link to his proposed aforementioned petition via Change.org (a site which is finally being put to good use).

The petition reads in full:

The Student Federation of Ottawa has recently cancelled a free Yoga class over issues of cultural appropriation.

While this is a sign of progress, we must build off the momentum. Former New York Daily News columnist Bill Hammond has suggested that we go further by cancelling university algebra courses, as this branch of mathematics has its cultural roots in ancient Babylonia.

The University of Ottawa is a logical selection for this petition, since they have proven capable of leading the way. Please sign the petition to have Dean of Instruction, Joyce Caldwell, remove any courses related to algebra.
