So much for “draining the swamp” and making government accountable to the American people. In an interview with The Washington Post published in April, then-candidate Trump stated his desire for high-ranking federal employees to sign non-disclosure agreements.

Trump’s reason for his insistence on secrecy? Well, he’s afraid that somebody is going to write an unflattering book about him in the future. Yes, really.

“When people are chosen by a man to go into government at high levels, and then they leave government and they write a book about a man and say a lot of things that were really guarded and personal, I don’t like that,” complained Trump.

While Trump made the comments during the presidential campaign, there’s little to suggest that he’s changed his mind about the non-disclosure agreements for federal employees.

Already, Trump is staffing his advisory team like a king eager to surround himself with loyal palace guards.

Trump’s children, Ivanka, Eric, and Don, have been intimately involved with the real estate mogul’s transition process, helping their father choose members of his cabinet.

Whispering in the ear of the president-elect, Trump’s children will likely be involved in White House affairs for years to come, especially given the kids’ history of involvement in Trump’s vast business empire.

Trump’s loyalty doesn’t end at blood relatives, however. The president-elect’s uber-wealthy son-in-law, Jared Kushner (a guy who thought that Gov. Chris Christie’s ‘Bridgegate’ scandal was “badass”) reportedly has immense influence over the entire transition process. Some reports indicate that Kushner may be Trump’s closest confidante and advisor.

But the presidential cabinet and council is vast. Staffing family members simply won’t cut the mustard. That’s why Trump may require those he appoints to key posts to be legally obligated to remain loyal via non-disclosure agreements.
