WATCH: Trump Jokes 'We Should Just Cancel The Election' And Make Me President

Thursday, at a rally in Toledo, Ohio, GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump slammed his rival's small business tax policy as "so bad."

The mogul then joked: "Just thinking to myself right now, we should just cancel the election, and just give it to Trump, right? What are we even having it for? What are we having it for?" The crowd loved the idea.

Trump's remark was obviously tongue in cheek, but looking to the polls, he might be wishing it were true. According to RealClearPolitics, in a four-way general election matchup, Hillary Clinton is up 4.4%, and the gap widens to 5.2% when it's just her versus Trump.

In key battleground states, Trump's lead is either extremely narrow:

  • Ohio (+1.1%)
  • Iowa (+1.4%)
  • Georgia (+2.8%).

Or nonexistent:

  • Florida (-0.7%)
  • Arizona (-1.5%)
  • Nevada (-2%)
  • North Carolina (-2.4%)
  • Minnesota (-5%)
  • Pennsylvania (-5%)
  • Maine (-5.2%)
  • Michigan (-6%)
  • Colorado (-6.2%)
  • New Hampshire (-6.5%)
  • Wisconsin (-6.5%)
  • Virginia (-8%).

There is one battleground state in which Trump's lead is sizable, and that's Missouri, where the mogul is up by 7.2%.

Currently, FiveThirtyEight projects that Hillary Clinton will get 327 electoral votes to Donald Trump's 209; they also give Clinton an 82% chance of winning the election.

They say that a day in politics is a year in real life, so much can change in a short period of time. Perhaps the FBI's stunning announcement that it has reopened the investigation in Clinton's private email server will truly shake things up enough to give Trump a shot. We'll learn soon enough.
