Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush's Super PAC is resorting to an astonishingly stupid strategy to attack Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fl.): he's too strong on protecting unborn babies!

The New York Times reports that Bush's top advisers are quite unhappy that Rubio is running against Bush since Bush previously backed Rubio for Florida House Speaker. Some of Bush's supporters have gone as far as referring to Rubio as "Judas." Now Bush's Right to Rise PAC is going to hike the attacks against Rubio.

Right to Rise top strategist Mike Murphy told the Times, "Part of running for president is you have to put your big boy pants on and get vetted on the issues, so we know we don’t have a dud candidate running against Hillary Clinton."

Murphy said that his campaign could dedicate as much as $20 million against Rubio, and will attack Rubio for being "too extreme on abortion." Rubio is apparently extreme because he opposes abortion even in cases of rape and incest.

This strategy is bound to backfire. A Gallup poll shows that 55 percent of Americans want all or most abortions illegal. It is true that 51 percent want abortion legal only in certain circumstances–such as rape or incest–but holding the view that abortion should not be legal in those circumstances is certainly not extreme.

Abortions performed for rape victims make up only one percent of abortions, while victims of incest make up less one half of one percent of abortions. But holding the view that abortions should be illegal in those circumstances is ideologically consistent, as in neither instance did the unborn baby do anything wrong and should have to suffer. The science quite clear shows that life begins as conception, as confirmed by 41 medical textbooks life should be protected even in circumstances of rape and incest.

Rubio and Bush both have solid pro-life records, and yet Bush's PAC's strategy is going to undermine his record with this ridiculous strategy. Rubio is also good at answering questions on the issue of life, as this video shows:

"Part of running for president is you have to put your big boy pants on and get vetted on the issues, so we know we don’t have a dud candidate running against Hillary Clinton."

Right to Rise top strategist Mike Murphy on Marco Rubio

Erick Erickson writes at RedState that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tx.) will benefit from the Bush PAC's strategy:

Cruz is consolidating conservative support and is going to get a huge bounce into the SEC Primary on March 1st where he will have Texas, plus Georgia and other southern states before Rubio and Bush even get to Florida to battle it out. This effort by Murphy will just hurt Rubio in later states with sizable establishment leaning votes when Rubio needs to overcome the early Cruz lead.

Mike Murphy has built a machine to get Jeb Bush elected and cannot get it done. More and more Republican voters have decided they will never, ever support Jeb Bush. The Bush Super PAC ads have done nothing to boost Bush’s popularity. As revenge for their “boy” becoming his own man, Mike Murphy intends to destroy Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL). If Bush can’t get the nomination, they will make sure Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) can’t either.

Advantage: Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX).
