Tyson Foods will close a major beef plant in Lexington, Nebraska, with about 3,200 employees in January after U.S. cattle supplies dropped to their lowest level in nearly 75 years, the meatpacker said on Friday.
The closure in the heart of cattle-feeding country signaled that supplies will remain tight, forcing meatpackers to pay steep prices for cattle to process into steaks and hamburgers.
Beef prices have set records due to low supplies and strong demand, raising costs for consumers. President Donald Trump said last month that he was working to bring down prices.
Tyson said it will also reduce operations at a beef plant in Amarillo, Texas, to a single, full-capacity shift, affecting about 1,700 workers.
&#8220;Tyson Foods recognizes the impact these decisions have on team members and the communities where we operate,&#8221; the company said in a statement.
Tyson said the changes were expected around January 20 and that it will increase production at other facilities to meet customer demand.
Beef prices soared this year as cattle supplies dwindled and meatpackers increasingly competed for limited supplies of livestock.
Ranchers slashed their herds after a years-long drought burned up pasture lands and hiked feeding costs. Some have slowly started to rebuild their herds, though it takes at least two years to raise full-grown cattle.
Tyson&#8217;s beef business suffered adjusted losses of $426 million in the 12 months ended on September 27 and $291 million over the previous year. The meatpacker projected the unit will lose $400 million to $600 million in the 2026 fiscal year.
&#8220;We all expected a plant to be closed at some point in 2026,&#8221; said Rich Nelson, chief strategist for Allendale. &#8220;I&#8217;m a little surprised they&#8217;re doing it preemptively.&#8221;
Losses in Tyson&#8217;s beef business were a turnaround from the fat profits it and other processors reaped during the COVID-19 pandemic, when meat prices soared as infections among plant workers slowed output.
The Lexington plant can process roughly 5,000 cattle per day, or about 5% of total U.S. slaughtering, but it has already been operating below capacity, said Matt Wiegand, commodity broker for FuturesOne in Nebraska. Its closure will shock the city of about 10,000 residents and hurt local feedyards that fatten cattle, he said.
&#8220;Tyson&#8217;s announcement will have a devastating impact,&#8221; said U.S. Senator Deb Fischer of Nebraska. &#8220;It&#8217;s no secret that just a few years ago, packers like Tyson were making windfall profits while the rest of the industry was continuously in the red.&#8221;
In Amarillo, Tyson&#8217;s plant can slaughter roughly 6,000 cattle per day, according to industry estimates.
The White House had no immediate comment.
Trump has sought to boost beef imports from countries such as Argentina to ease prices for U.S. consumers, angering American ranchers. On Thursday, he removed 40% tariffs he had imposed this summer on Brazilian food products that slowed imports of beef used to make hamburger meat.
Trump has also accused meatpacking companies of driving up U.S. beef prices through manipulation and collusion, and ordered the Justice Department to investigate.

A year apart, President Donald Trump and former President Joe Biden both touted September job growth — but the source of that growth couldn’t be more different. Under Trump, the federal workforce shrank, while under Biden, it expanded.
Thursday’s jobs report showed an overall increase of <a href="https://www.bls.gov/news.release/pdf/empsit.pdf">119,000 jobs</a>, with the bulk coming from the private sector.
“The job growth was driven almost entirely by private-sector job gains,” stated the White House in a press release. Health care and construction industries led the way — adding 43,000 and 19,000 jobs, respectively. And while the private sector grew, the public sector shrank.
“Federal government employment continued to decline in September and is down 97,000 since reaching a peak in January,” the report showed. That figure may even understate the true contraction, as workers on severance are still counted as employed by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
On the other hand, <a href="https://www.bls.gov/news.release/archives/empsit_10042024.pdf#:~:text=Household%20Survey%20Data%20Both%20the%20unemployment%20rate%2C,number%20of%20unemployed%20people%20was%206.3%20million.">Biden’s September 2024 report</a> told a different story. “Employment in government continued its upward trend in September,” the report stated. Under Biden, government jobs averaged a monthly gain of 45,000.
When Trump took office, federal jobs were at a peak. He implemented a <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/fact-sheets/2025/04/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-extends-the-hiring-freeze/?utm_source=chatgpt.com">federal hiring freeze</a> initially scheduled to end July 15, which was later extended indefinitely. Once the freeze expires, federal agencies can hire no more than one employee for every four employees who depart from federal service. The freeze makes exceptions for jobs related to immigration, law enforcement, and public safety. Trump framed the reduction as a correction of the previous administration&#8217;s growth. The hiring freeze fact sheet explains, “In the last two years of the Biden administration, the government was directly responsible for the creation of more than 1 in every 4 jobs.”
Campaigning on eliminating waste, the Trump administration says the freeze is necessary to address the “billions of dollars wasted each year on duplicative programs and frivolous expenditures that fail to align with American values or address the needs of the American people.”
Not stopping at limiting new hires, the Office of Personnel Management estimates that by the end of the year, more than 300,000 federal employees will have left or lost their jobs. The Trump administration says it hopes many of those workers transition to private-sector positions.
The strength of private-sector job growth complicates the Federal Reserve’s path. CNBC’s Steve Liesman said the report “bolsters the case of the hawks on the FOMC who have said they do not see serious deterioration in the labor market … a robust report.”
According to Fed Chair Jerome Powell, without a weakening labor market, the case for a December rate cut becomes much harder.
At November’s Federal Open Market Committee meeting, Powell described a difficult balance: a tight labor market alongside higher-than-desired inflation. Ultimately, the Fed decided on a rate cut to avoid further disruption to employment.
“We’re in a difficult situation,” Powell said at the National Association for Business Economics. “If we move too quickly, then we may leave the inflation job unfinished. If we move too slowly, there may be painful losses in the employment market.”

The strike targeted top Hamas officials who have been living and operating out of Qatar, which has served as a protected refuge for the terror group&#8217;s leadership. It appears to be the first time Israel has struck Hamas officials inside the country. Qatar condemned the attack as a &#8220;blatant violation of all international laws and norms.&#8221; The White House said the U.S. was notified of the attack ahead of time and, in turn, informed Qatar. President Trump &#8220;believes this unfortunate incident could serve as an opportunity for peace,&#8221; said Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.
The strike came shortly after Hamas rejected a new peace proposal from the Trump administration, calling it a &#8220;humiliating surrender document.&#8221; The proposal would have required Hamas to release all remaining hostages in exchange for Israel releasing thousands of Palestinian prisoners.
The events follow a separate Hamas terror attack in Jerusalem on Monday that killed six people and wounded 12 others.

Topline: The Bureau of Labor Statistics on Tuesday announced that it had overcounted U.S. jobs by nearly one million last year, the largest downward revision in American history, confirming President Trump’s claims that the economy he inherited was far weaker than reported.
In its annual revision, the BLS announced that from March 2024 to March 2025, the economy added 910,000 fewer jobs than was initially reported. The more than 50% downward revision means the economy was adding only 70,000 jobs per month during that period, not 147,000. The White House said the news makes it &#8220;very clear that President Trump inherited a much worse economy &#8230; than ever reported&#8221; and proves that the Federal Reserve&#8217;s interest rate policy has been &#8220;far too restrictive.&#8221;
The massive revision reinforces the president&#8217;s push to overhaul the BLS, an agency he has accused of producing inaccurate data. &#8220;Much like the CDC, everything is wrong with the Bureau of Labor Statistics,&#8221; said Senator Roger Marshall (R-KS), who is in charge of confirming Trump&#8217;s nominee to lead the agency. &#8220;We need someone &#8230; to come in there and turn that place upside down.&#8221;
The shocking report makes it much more likely that the Fed will finally cut interest rates later this month, a move President Trump has been demanding for months.

The jobs market during former President Joe Biden’s last year in office was much worse than previously reported, data released Tuesday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics reveal.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) <a href="https://www.bls.gov/news.release/prebmk.nr0.htm">revised</a> job numbers showing that there were 911,000 fewer jobs than reported from April 2024 to March 2025. The Trump administration responded to the massive overcount by saying it demonstrated the need for new leadership at the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
“Today, the BLS released the largest downward revision on record proving that President Trump was right: Biden’s economy was a disaster and the BLS is broken,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said. “This is exactly why we need new leadership to restore trust and confidence in the BLS’ data on behalf of the financial markets, businesses, policymakers, and families that rely on this data to make major decisions.”
Last month, President Donald Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-fires-biden-appointed-labor-statistics-boss-after-major-revisions-to-jobs-reports">fired</a> BLS Commissioner Erika McEntarfer, accusing her of manipulating the jobs numbers for political purposes. Trump has nominated Heritage Foundation economist E.J. Antoni to take her place.
Leavitt added that Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell should respond to the news by cutting interest rates, saying that he had “run out of excuses” not to do so. Trump has been pressuring Powell to lower interest rates for months and has even floated the idea of firing the Fed chair.
The revisions indicate that the Bureau of Labor Statistics overcounted private sector non-farm jobs by 880,000 and government employment by 31,000. In the private sector, jobs were overcounted by 126,200 in retail trade, 110,300 in wholesale trade, leisure and hospitality by 176,000, professional and business service by 158,000, and manufacturing by 95,000.
“Considering these reports are the foundation of economic forecasts and major policy decisions, there is no room for such a significant and consistent amount of error. It’s imperative for the data to remain accurate, impartial, and never altered for political gain,” said Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer.
“Leaders at the bureau failed to improve their practices during the Biden administration, utilizing outdated methods that rendered a once reliable system completely ineffective and calling into question the motivation behind their inaction,” she added.

The U.S. economy added just 22,000 jobs in August, and the unemployment rate rose to 4.3%, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics report released on Friday.
The BLS report was the first one since President Donald Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-fires-biden-appointed-labor-statistics-boss-after-major-revisions-to-jobs-reports">fired</a> Biden-appointed BLS Commissioner Erika McEntarfer after the bureau made major revisions to its May and June reports, marking down nonfarm payrolls by nearly 260,000. The August numbers were far below economists’ predictions, who expected payrolls to rise by 75,000, CNBC <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/09/05/jobs-report-august-2025.html">reported</a>.
While Friday’s report reveals a troubling trend for the job market, it is likely to keep the Federal Reserve on track to lower interest rates at its meeting later this month. The Federal Reserve often lowers interest rates if unemployment is high in an attempt to stimulate economic activity, which can lead to companies hiring more people. Last month, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/fed-chair-jerome-powell-hints-at-possible-rate-cut-wall-street-cheers?author=Zach+Jewell&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Fed+Chair+Jerome+Powell+Hints+At+Possible+Rate+Cut%2C+Wall+Street+Cheers">suggested</a> that central bank policymakers are considering cutting rates.
Shortly after the poor jobs report was released, Trump blasted Powell on his Truth Social platform.
“Jerome ‘Too Late’ Powell should have lowered rates long ago. As usual, he’s ‘Too Late!’” Trump <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/115152111914572913">posted</a>.
Both the wholesale trade and manufacturing sectors saw declines of 12,000 jobs last month, while the health care sector led all others with 31,000 jobs added. Average hourly earnings rose 0.3%, matching the estimate, and annual earnings gains increased by 3.7%, which was just shy of the 3.8% expectation, according to CNBC.
Daniel Zhao, the chief economist at jobs site Glassdoor, told the outlet, “The labor market is losing lift, and August’s report, along with downward revisions, suggests we’re heading into turbulence without the soft landing achieved.”
Trump ripped McEntarfer last month, accusing the former BLS commissioner of inflating job growth “before the Election to try and boost” the chances of former Vice President Kamala Harris.
“We need accurate Jobs Numbers. I have directed my Team to fire this Biden Political Appointee, IMMEDIATELY. She will be replaced with someone much more competent and qualified,” he said on August 1. “Important numbers like this must be fair and accurate, they can’t be manipulated for political purposes.”
Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-names-his-pick-to-take-charge-of-jobs-data-honest-and-accurate">nominated</a> economist E.J. Antoni to take over the BLS. Antoni is a Heritage Foundation fellow who agrees with Trump that BLS numbers have been distorted for political reasons.
“There are better ways to collect, process, and disseminate data—that is the task for the next BLS commissioner, and only consistent delivery of accurate data in a timely manner will rebuild the trust that has been lost over the last several years,” Antoni posted on X just a few days after Trump fired McEntarfer.

President Donald Trump said Monday that the lackluster July job report was “rigged” and vowed to appoint a new statistician to oversee the Bureau of Labor Statistics. 
Trump’s criticism of the monthly jobs report came after <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/fewer-jobs-than-expected-added-in-july-as-unemployment-holds-steady?author=Leif+Le+Mahieu&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=2&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Fewer+Jobs+Than+Expected+Added+In+July+As+Unemployment+Holds+Steady">it found</a> that just 73,000 jobs were added to the economy in July, and that previous reports had significantly overcounted job growth. In response, Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-fires-biden-appointed-labor-statistics-boss-after-major-revisions-to-jobs-reports">fired</a> Bureau of Labor Statistics Commissioner Erika McEntarfer on Friday, saying that she had manipulated the numbers for political purposes. 
“Last weeks Job’s Report was RIGGED, just like the numbers prior to the Presidential Election were Rigged. That’s why, in both cases, there was massive, record setting revisions, in favor of the Radical Left Democrats,” Trump <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114970631477859993">posted</a> on Truth Social on Monday morning. “Those big adjustments were made to cover up, and level out, the FAKE political numbers that were CONCOCTED in order to make a great Republican Success look less stellar!!! I will pick an exceptional replacement. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
Trump told reporters on Sunday that he would name a replacement for McEntarfer sometime in the next three to four days. 
“We had no confidence. The numbers were ridiculous,” he said. 
In addition to July job growth coming in lower than what had been projected by economists, the reports from May and June were revised down by 258,000 jobs. The Bureau of Labor Statistics described these revisions as “larger than normal.”

On Friday, the Labor Department released a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-fires-biden-appointed-labor-statistics-boss-after-major-revisions-to-jobs-reports">report</a> showing the U.S. economy added only 73,000 jobs in July, falling well short of the 100,000 projection. More alarmingly, the agency announced that its job numbers for May and June had been overestimated by 90%, revising the initial report of 291,000 jobs down to just 33,000. President Trump immediately responded with a statement declaring that &#8220;the jobs were RIGGED in order to make the Republicans, and ME, look bad.” He then fired Erika McEntarfer, the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, accusing her of releasing similarly inaccurate reports before the 2024 election &#8220;in the hopes of getting &#8216;Kamala&#8217; elected.&#8221; 
National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett defended the move, stating, &#8220;What we need is a fresh set of eyes at the BLS. Someone who can clean this thing up.” Democrats and other critics, like former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, called the president’s charge &#8220;preposterous,&#8221; arguing that it would be impossible for the head of the BLS to manipulate the data. 
Despite the sluggish job growth, the White House pointed to positive underlying trends in the labor market. Since President Trump took office, 100% of net job growth has been among American-born workers and has occurred in the private sector. Under the previous administration, 100% of net job growth was among foreign-born workers, while about 25% of all jobs created were in government.

Medvedev, who often serves as a provocateur for the Kremlin, recently made statements alluding to a last-ditch nuclear weapons response. While the specific submarines and their locations have not been disclosed, the U.S. Navy possesses 14 Ohio-class ballistic-missile submarines. Each one can carry up to 20 Trident ballistic missiles armed with multiple nuclear warheads, capable of striking Moscow from thousands of miles away. The move is being seen as a signal from Trump that he will not tolerate threats from Russia, a harder line than the previous administration’s focus on de-escalation. 
This comes as Trump’s new August 8 deadline for Russian President Vladimir Putin to enter into peace talks with Ukraine is fast approaching. If Russia misses the deadline, the president has the authority to implement massive new sanctions and increase weapons shipments to Ukraine.

President Donald Trump said on Friday that he ordered his team to fire Bureau of Labor Statistics Commissioner Erika McEntarfer after Friday&#8217;s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/fewer-jobs-than-expected-added-in-july-as-unemployment-holds-steady">jobs report</a> showed that the U.S. job market underperformed expectations last month and made major negative revisions to previous reports.
Trump accused McEntarfer, who was nominated by former President Joe Biden, of faking jobs numbers &#8220;before the Election to try and boost&#8221; the chances of former Vice President Kamala Harris. The July jobs report showed that growth was slower than expected at 73,000 jobs added, while unemployment slightly ticked up to 4.2%, in line with predictions. The Bureau of Labor Statistics also made major revisions to the May and June reports, marking down nonfarm payrolls by nearly 260,000 in the two months combined.
&#8220;This is the same Bureau of Labor Statistics that overstated the Jobs Growth in March 2024 by approximately 818,000 and, then again, right before the 2024 Presidential Election, in August and September, by 112,000,&#8221; Trump <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114954846612623858">wrote</a> in a post on Truth Social.
&#8220;We need accurate Jobs Numbers. I have directed my Team to fire this Biden Political Appointee, IMMEDIATELY. She will be replaced with someone much more competent and qualified,&#8221; he added. &#8220;Important numbers like this must be fair and accurate, they can’t be manipulated for political purposes.&#8221;
NBC News <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/business/economy/trump-orders-firing-bls-commissioner-weak-jobs-report-rcna222531">reported</a> that a Trump official confirmed the Bureau of Labor Statistics commissioner had been fired. McEntarfer has spent the last 20 years of her career working in the federal government, hopping from the Census Bureau to the Treasury Department to the White House&#8217;s Council of Economic Advisers. The Bureau of Labor Statistics&#8217; deputy director is Bill Wiatrowski, who started under former President Barack Obama.
In a follow-up <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114955222046259464">post</a> later on Friday, Trump wrote, &#8220;In my opinion, today’s Jobs Numbers were RIGGED in order to make the Republicans, and ME, look bad — Just like when they had three great days around the 2024 Presidential Election, and then, those numbers were &#8216;taken away&#8217; on November 15, 2024, right after the Election, when the Jobs Numbers were massively revised DOWNWARD, making a correction of over 818,000 Jobs — A TOTAL SCAM.&#8221;
The 818,000 jobs revision from the Bureau of Labor Statistics came in <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/business/economy/us-added-818000-fewer-jobs-thought-adding-concerns-economy-rcna167555">August</a> of last year, three months before the 2024 election, not after the election as the president claimed. That downward revision was for total U.S. job gains over a 12-month period ending in March 2024.
The president tore into McEntarfer for the revision of recent jobs reports, saying, &#8220;Similar things happened in the first part of the year, always to the negative.&#8221; He then called for Fed Chair Jerome Powell to &#8220;also be put &#8216;out to pasture,'&#8221; along with McEntarfer.
&#8220;The Economy is BOOMING under &#8216;TRUMP&#8217; despite a Fed that also plays games, this time with Interest Rates, where they lowered them twice, and substantially, just before the Presidential Election, I assume in the hopes of getting &#8216;Kamala&#8217; elected – How did that work out? Jerome &#8216;Too Late&#8217; Powell should also be put &#8216;out to pasture.&#8217; Thank you for your attention to this matter!&#8221;

Trump Fires Biden-Appointed Labor Statistics Boss After Major Revisions To Jobs Reports

Fewer jobs were added to the economy in July than expected as the unemployment rate remained largely unchanged, according to a report released Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. 
The monthly jobs <a href="https://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.nr0.htm">report</a> found that 73,000 jobs were added to the American economy in July, lower than the 100,000 that the Dow Jones had projected. The health care and social assistance industries saw job growth while federal government employment continued to decline. 
The industries of mining, quarrying, oil and gas extraction, construction, manufacturing, wholesale trade, retail trade, transportation and warehousing, information, and finance all saw marginal changes, the report said. 
“Both the unemployment rate, at 4.2 percent, and the number of unemployed people, at 7.2 million, changed little in July. The unemployment rate has remained in a narrow range of 4.0 percent to 4.2 percent since May 2024,” the Bureau of Labor Statistics found. 
The report also said that average hourly earnings for nonfarm payrolls increased by 0.3% in July. 
Major revisions were made to the job reports from May and June, with the July report noting that job growth had been overcounted by around 258,000. 
“Revisions for May and June were larger than normal,” the report said. “The change in total nonfarm payroll employment for May was revised down by 125,000, from +144,000 to +19,000, and the change for June was revised  down by 133,000, from +147,000 to +14,000.”
In a statement responding to the jobs report, Republican National Committee Communications Director Zach Parkinson pointed to lower gas prices and the stock market.
“The Trump economy is delivering real results for American workers and families,” Parkinson said. “Prices for gas and groceries are down, inflation has fallen, the economy has added half a million jobs since January, wage growth is at 4%, and the stock market just reached record highs.”
Shortly after the report was released, President Donald Trump again called for Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell to cut interest rates. 
“Too Little, Too Late. Jerome ‘Too Late’ Powell is a disaster,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Friday. “DROP THE RATE! The good news is that Tariffs are bringing Billions of Dollars into the USA!”
The jobs report comes on the heels of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/americas-economy-keeps-roaring-3-gdp-growth-shatters-expectations">the news</a> showing that real gross domestic product (GDP) grew at 3% in the second quarter and amid a flurry of new actions by Trump on tariffs. A wave of new tariffs is set to go into effect on August 7, even as negotiations with Mexico and China, two of America’s biggest trading partners, remain ongoing.

Vice President JD Vance defended the Trump administration’s immigration policies in a speech Wednesday, predicting that the United States was on the cusp of “net negative immigration.”
Speaking at an artificial intelligence summit hosted by the All In Podcast and the Hill and Valley Forum in Washington, the vice president addressed conservative critics who claim the White House is not doing enough to fight illegal immigration.
Noting that the Trump administration has faced legal and practical struggles while pursuing its goal of <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/ice-deportations-trump-six-months/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">1 million</a> deportations this year, Vance nevertheless said that if you consider the “net number” of deportations, the Trump administration has been “wildly successful.”
“In 2025 we will have the first net negative immigration number in about 50 or 60 years in the United States,” Vance said.
He also responded to the argument that more deportations occurred under Biden.
“That’s actually a completely fake statistic. It’s based on the fact that if you come into the country illegally, and then the Biden administration processes you and sends you out, that counts as a deportation.”
Border Patrol didn’t release a single illegal into the United States in May, the New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/06/17/us-news/border-agents-didnt-release-a-single-illegal-migrant-into-the-us-last-month-border-patrol/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. By contrast, 62,000 illegal migrants crossed the border in the same month last year.
During his address Vance also criticized companies — calling out Microsoft specifically — for performing mass layoffs while actively applying for H1-B visas.
H1-B visas are <a href="https://www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/immigration/h1b" target="_blank" rel="noopener">temporary work permits</a> that allow American companies to employ foreign nonimmigrant skilled workers in “specialty occupations.” There is a cap on how many H1-B visas can be issued per year, currently set at 65,000.
&#8220;You see some big tech companies where they&#8217;ll lay off 9,000 workers, and then they&#8217;ll apply for a bunch of overseas visas. And I sort of wonder; that doesn&#8217;t totally make sense to me,” Vance said, seemingly referencing Microsoft, who announced their latest round of layoffs earlier this month which would affect <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/07/02/microsoft-laying-off-about-9000-employees-in-latest-round-of-cuts.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">9,000</a> employees, or 4% of their workforce.
&#8220;That displacement and that math worries me a bit. And what the president has said, he said very clearly: we want the very best and the brightest to make America their home. We want them to build great companies and so forth.”
“But I don&#8217;t want companies to fire 9,000 American workers and then to go and say, &#8216;We can&#8217;t find workers here in America,&#8217;” Vance added. “That&#8217;s a bulls*** story.&#8221;
Rumours were circulating on X after Microsoft announced its layoffs that it has applied for over 6,000 H1-B visas since the start of the fiscal year in October. Though the rumours are currently unsubstantiated, last year Microsoft applied for and <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/microsoft-layoffs-h1b-visa-applications-2094370" target="_blank" rel="noopener">received</a> 9,491 H1-B visas.
This comes as multiple big tech companies collectively committed to investing $90 billion into developing AI infrastructure in Pennsylvania at a <a href="https://www.wsj.com/tech/ai/trump-to-tout-billions-in-investments-to-create-ai-hub-in-pennsylvania-1e9afa89?utm_source=chatgpt.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">summit</a> that Trump attended last week. Trump also signed <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2025/07/23/trump-ai-action-plan-big-tech/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">three executive orders</a> on Wednesday that will deregulate and encourage investment in the AI industry.
“We created the digital age, and now we are leading the world into the golden age,” Trump said at the signing. “With your help, that golden age will be built by American workers. It will be powered by American energy. It will be run on American technology, improved by American artificial intelligence,” he told tech companies.

In the first six months of President Donald Trump&#8217;s second term, one major theme has defined Trump&#8217;s economic record thus far: success that surprises the people who are paid to predict it.
It hasn&#8217;t been surprising for the president, who is carrying out his promise to revamp American manufacturing and boost American jobs, mainly by imposing unprecedented tariffs on nearly every country in the world. And it comes as economists who predicted large-scale inflation and market downturn over Trump&#8217;s bold economic agenda keep seeing economic metrics come across their desks showing the opposite.
Earlier this year, Americans were told to brace their wallets for rising inflation and prepare for a <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-tariffs-economists-forecast-stagflation-recession-risk/">recession</a> caused by Trump&#8217;s major tariffs, especially those levied on America&#8217;s biggest trading partners, China, Canada, and Mexico. In May, Goldman Sachs analysts said core goods inflation could hit 6.3% by the end of the year while consumer prices would spike 3.7% by early 2026, according to CNN.
The latest numbers on the U.S. economy fly in the face of the naysayers, branded by Trump as &#8220;panicans.&#8221; Late last week, the U.S. Census Bureau <a href="https://www.census.gov/retail/sales.html">reported</a> that June retail sales were up 0.6% from May and up 3.5% from last year. Food service and drinks sales jumped 6.6% from June 2024. Those numbers were, of course, better than what economists had predicted — a phrase that has become a monthly tradition since Trump stepped back into the White House
According to University of Michigan surveys, American consumers expected prices to rise 6.6% this year. But so far, there&#8217;s been no sign of inflation jumping through the roof, and even <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2025/06/20/business/tariff-price-increases-inflation-explained">CNN</a> had to admit last month, &#8220;Love tariffs or hate them, there’s no denying inflation is lower now than when Trump took office.&#8221;
The numbers don&#8217;t lie: inflation under Trump has defied economists&#8217; predictions in nearly every month the president has been in office. In April, year-over-year inflation came in at 2.3%, its <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/inflation-hits-lowest-point-in-over-4-years-as-april-report-better-than-expected">lowest annual rate</a> in more than four years. The Consumer Price Index <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/great-numbers-report-shows-no-significant-tariff-related-price-jumps-for-3rd-straight-month">rose</a> to just 2.4% in May compared to last year, which again was lower than what the &#8220;experts&#8221; predicted. Meanwhile, the Producer Price Index, which measures the average change over time in selling prices received by domestic producers, had its <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/u-s-wholesale-prices-see-biggest-drop-in-5-years-flying-in-the-face-of-economists-predictions">biggest drop</a> in five years in April, falling 0.5%.
As inflation numbers continue to look good for the Trump administration, U.S. job growth also beat expectations in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/america-is-hot-job-growth-again-beats-expectations">May</a> and <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/07/03/jobs-report-june-2025.html#:~:text=Nonfarm%20payrolls%20increased%20a%20seasonally,158%2C000%20following%20an%2011%2C000%20increase.">June</a> while unemployment ticks down.
“During his first six months in office, President Trump has repeatedly embarrassed the panicans who predicted doom and gloom, from inflation to recession. Under President Trump, Americans have seen an end to Joe Biden’s inflation crisis, multiple expectation-beating jobs reports, record tariff revenue collection, bond and stock market rallies, and historic investment commitments worth trillions that will cement America’s dominance in cutting-edge sectors,&#8221; White House Spokesman Kush Desai told The Daily Wire.
Still, many economists continue to warn of a coming inflation crisis due to Trump&#8217;s aggressive tariff policy. It&#8217;s only a matter of time before tariffs cause the inevitable chaos in America&#8217;s economy, they say. That fear, however, isn&#8217;t reflected in the stock market, which recently soared to record highs, or in the minds of consumers and business owners who remain optimistic about the economy.
Even with the latest CPI report showing a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/inflation-creeps-up-as-trump-prepares-major-tariff-rollout?author=Zach+Jewell&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Inflation+Creeps+Up+As+Trump+Prepares+Major+Tariff+Rollout">slight increase</a> in inflation, prices remain steady or even down over Trump&#8217;s second term. And with Trump&#8217;s tariffs going into effect, the United States is raking in billions of dollars in revenue. The country has brought in over $100 billion in tariff revenue since Trump took office in January, with tariff collections for the 2025 fiscal year jumping 65% from the previous year, Axios <a href="https://www.axios.com/2025/06/30/trump-tariffs-customs-revenue">reported</a> in late June.
Numerous foreign and American companies have also pledged to invest billions of dollars in the United States over the next few years, either to avoid Trump&#8217;s tariffs or to invest in the American energy and manufacturing boom that is quickly taking shape. Just last week, Trump met with executives from Google’s parent company Alphabet, along with officials from Meta, Microsoft, Exxon Mobil, and other companies, who <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-to-meet-with-tech-and-energy-giants-after-google-announces-huge-investment-in-u-s">pledged $90 billion</a> worth of AI and energy investments in Pennsylvania.
