Protests at the Newark, New Jersey, ICE facility grew increasingly violent this week, prompting federal officials to arrest over a dozen rioters.
Nine agitators were arrested overnight on Thursday, according to Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin. They join another six rioters who were arrested Wednesday for assaulting ICE officers. Around 100 agitators gathered at the detention facility Wednesday and Thursday, with several of them throwing objects at federal officers.
In a video posted by commentator Nick Sortor, an agitator screamed at an ICE agent, telling him that he took a photo of the agent’s face and threatened to murder his family.

That agitator has not been arrested, but acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche said that the federal government is looking for the agitator over his threats to the federal officer.
“I promise you, we’ll find him, and when we find him, we will arrest him, because it is a crime not only to threaten law enforcement, but not surprisingly to threaten their family as well,” Blanche said.
According to federal law, it is illegal to threaten violence against a federal officer by threatening to murder a family member, and the offense carries a prison sentence of up to 10 years.
&#8220;On the evening of May 28th, approximately 100 anti-ICE rioters gathered around the Delaney Hall ICE facility. Rioters bit, kicked, and punched law enforcement officers,&#8221; Mullin <a href="https://x.com/SecMullinDHS/status/2060346993805811767">said</a>. &#8220;Governor [Mikie] Sherrill refused to allow state police to assist our officers. Assaulting and obstructing [ICE] law enforcement is a crime and felony. Throughout the night, nine rioters were arrested. Anyone who assaults law enforcement will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Law and order will prevail.&#8221;
Sortor also reported that a group of ICE protesters resorted to racist remarks, <a href="https://x.com/nicksortor/status/2060045284969775610">chanting</a>, &#8220;You will hang!&#8221; to a group of ICE agents that included black officers.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said the Trump administration is drafting plans to stop processing foreign travelers at airports located in sanctuary cities, but the possible change has some former officials questioning the political implications.
Mullin revealed on “Hannity” Tuesday night that officials are “currently drawing up plans” to pull Customs officers from international airports in jurisdictions that refuse to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement efforts amid escalating anti-ICE protests outside a facility in Newark, New Jersey.
He then doubled down Thursday, telling Fox News host Brian Kilmeade that while his department won&#8217;t &#8220;halt&#8221; international flights, it will pull Customs officers away from processing those passengers as they attempt to enter the United States.
&#8220;When we have situations like what&#8217;s happening in New Jersey right now, when we have to prioritize where we put federal employees because local law enforcement won&#8217;t help protect their streets &#8230; and keep them from barricading and causing harm to our employees, then we have to decide where we&#8217;re going to prioritize our federal employees,&#8221; Mullin said.
&#8220;What we&#8217;re saying is we just won&#8217;t be able to process them because we don&#8217;t have officers there,&#8221; he added.
The idea immediately sparked concerns from former Homeland Security officials, who questioned the political fallout and consequences of such a move ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which the United States is set to co-host.
Former Homeland Security advisor Charles Marino said that while there&#8217;s a need for &#8220;consequences for sanctuary cities, there&#8217;s no way this would be allowed to happen with the World Cup coming up.&#8221;
&#8220;The political pressure on the admin from FIFA, the international community, stadiums, local governments, and businesses would be immense. It also undercuts President Trump, who routinely takes credit for bringing the World Cup to the U.S. To do this now is all risk and no reward,&#8221; he said.
Trump&#8217;s Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy also appeared skeptical of the proposal.
“We shouldn’t shut down air travel in a state that doesn’t agree with our politics,&#8221; Duffy said during a Congressional hearing last week.
Another former Homeland Security official, who was granted anonymity to speak more freely on the issue, said the Trump administration is trying to play &#8220;hardball,&#8221; adding that it&#8217;s &#8220;the federal government&#8217;s right&#8221; to carry out such a plan. The official, however, warned that &#8220;it is only going to piss off the unaffiliated voters and at the end of the day will not change sanctuary jurisdictions.&#8221;
&#8220;Democrats will still vote for sanctuary,&#8221; the former official said.
Former ICE New York field office deputy director Scott Mechkowski said that Trump&#8217;s base will likely support that move, but that Mullin will need to focus his messaging to present it to the general public as a last-ditch effort to force cooperation from sanctuary cities.
Mechkowski said Mullin has to &#8220;frame&#8221; the initiative as &#8220;an extreme measure.&#8221; He pointed to the Trump administration&#8217;s attempts to &#8220;withhold&#8221; federal funds from sanctuary cities, an effort that has been repeatedly blocked by court orders.
It would also have &#8220;devastating effects,&#8221; spelling financial trouble for sanctuary cities, which he expects would cave easily to meet the Trump administration&#8217;s demands as a result.
&#8220;I think they need to realize that [Mullin] means business,&#8221; Mechkowski said.
Mullin first mentioned the proposal in April, presenting it as a tactic to force sanctuary cities to play ball with federal immigration agents.
“I believe sanctuary cities is not lawful,” Mullin told Fox News’ Bret Baier at the time. “I don’t think they’re able to do that, and so we’re gonna take a hard look at this.”
“If they’re sanctuary cities, should they really be processing Customs into their city?” Mullin asked. “If they’re a sanctuary city and they’re receiving international flights, and we’re asking them to partner with us at the airport, but once they walk out of the airport they’re not gonna enforce immigration policy, maybe we need to have a really hard look at that because we need to focus on cities that want to work with us.”

WASHINGTON, May 22 (Reuters) &#8211; The Internal Revenue Service is debating whether to require taxpayers to disclose their citizenship status on next year&#8217;s tax forms, according to three people familiar with the situation, as the Trump administration intensifies its attempts to link federal agencies to its sprawling immigration enforcement and anti-fraud drive.
IRS officials are considering two versions of Form 1040, the primary paperwork individuals use to report earnings and claim tax benefits, said the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of professional reprisals.
The first version contains minor updates to reflect changes in tax laws. The second includes those updates and a check-box labeled: &#8220;Check this box if you are a non-U.S. citizen or have dual citizenship.&#8221;
Representatives from the Treasury Department &#8211; the IRS&#8217;s parent agency &#8211; declined to comment on Friday.
Immigrants, including those in the United States illegally, are required to file taxes and use the same IRS forms as tax filers with citizenship. Paying taxes has long been seen as a key factor for illegal immigrants to obtain legal status.
&#8220;It’s just an effort to once again terrorize people with certain immigration statuses, and it’s another step of turning the IRS into an agency that collaborates with immigration authorities rather than being an agency that enforces and administers the tax laws,&#8221; said Nina Olson, executive director of the Center for Taxpayer Rights, an advocacy and low-income tax assistance organization.
The Treasury Department and the Department of Homeland Security spent much of 2025 attempting to collaborate, sharing confidential taxpayer data with immigration officials to assist in the Trump administration&#8217;s deportation campaign.
Olson&#8217;s organization filed a lawsuit, and a federal judge blocked the IRS from disclosing that data in November. The federal government has appealed the ruling.
In February, the IRS admitted to the court that it had erroneously shared the data of more than 42,000 taxpayers with DHS.
Disclosing a taxpayer&#8217;s personal information &#8212; including a name or address &#8212; outside of narrow legal exceptions carries stiff penalties, including jail time. President Donald Trump recently dropped a lawsuit against the IRS seeking $10 billion in damages after a tax agency contractor leaked his tax returns to media outlets. The contractor, Charles Littlejohn, is serving a five-year prison sentence.
In exchange for dropping the suit, the Justice Department created a nearly $1.8 billion fund to pay supposed victims of &#8220;government weaponization.&#8221; As part of the settlement, acting Attorney General Todd Blanche signed an agreement permanently barring the IRS from pursuing tax claims against Trump, his family or his businesses.
The Trump administration has sought to aggressively police government benefits awarded to non-citizens. Federal law already prohibits undocumented immigrants from many entitlement programs, including Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and other benefits covering education and housing. Non-citizens, though, pay into those programs through income, payroll and sales taxes.
Tax preparers nationwide reported encountering clients who said they were frightened to file their taxes in 2025 due to the IRS&#8217;s collaboration with immigration enforcement. That fear has fiscal consequences for the United States government. The Yale Budget Lab estimated that lower tax compliance rates among immigrant communities could lead to a $313 billion loss in federal revenue over the next decade.
The IRS is considering other methods of determining a taxpayer&#8217;s citizenship status. Non-citizens can file taxes using a nine-digit &#8220;individual tax identification number&#8221; in place of a Social Security number. Tax officials have discussed differentiating codes to denote a filer&#8217;s immigration status, the people said. The New York Times first reported those deliberations.

Foreigners roaming the United States and wanting a green card must return to their home country to apply, closing a major loophole that contributed to the growth of the illegal immigrant population in the country, according to a new federal rule.
The move shows that the United States is &#8220;returning to the original intent of the law to ensure aliens navigate our nation’s immigration system properly,&#8221; U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) spokesman Zach Kahler said in a <a href="https://www.uscis.gov/newsroom/news-releases/us-citizenship-and-immigration-services-will-grant-adjustment-of-status-only-in-extraordinary">statement</a> Friday. Before the new rule came into play, immigrants who were in the United States for temporary work, tourism, or school could stay in the country while applying for a green card.
As a result, the illegal immigrant population grew since many stayed in the country after being denied permanent residency. Their failure to depart forced federal authorities to hunt them down for deportation, according to USCIS.
&#8220;This policy allows our immigration system to function as the law intended instead of incentivizing loopholes,&#8221; Kahler said. &#8220;When aliens apply from their home country, it reduces the need to find and remove those who decide to slip into the shadows and remain in the U.S. illegally after being denied residency.&#8221;
When immigrants come to the United States under temporary terms, they shouldn&#8217;t use the visit as &#8220;the first step&#8221; in getting a green card, Kahler said.
“Following the law allows the majority of these cases to be handled by the State Department at U.S. consular offices abroad and frees up limited USCIS resources to focus on processing other cases that fall under its purview, including visas for victims of violent crime and human trafficking, naturalization applications, and other priorities,&#8221; Kahler said.
&#8220;The law was written this way for a reason, and despite the fact that it has been ignored for years, following it will help make our system fairer and more efficient,&#8221; he said.
Some immigrants will be exempt if there are &#8220;extraordinary circumstances&#8221; in their case, according to USCIS.
Around 500,000 immigrants overstayed their visa permissions as of September 2024, according to Homeland Security data.
The latest action comes as the Trump administration looks to crack down on abuse of legal immigration programs. As part of the effort, USCIS is auditing <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-admin-targets-citizenship-of-naturalized-terror-suspects">naturalization</a> cases, which has resulted in several foreign-born nationals accused of committing fraud or who are tied to terrorism losing their citizenship.
The Trump administration has already denaturalized 15 individuals as of April and has filed a total of 35 denaturalization complaints.

An illegal immigrant released into the country under the Biden administration was accused of raping a 12-year-old girl in Missouri, resulting in her pregnancy, The Daily Wire has learned.
Investigators said Colombian national Brayanne Escobar-Guarnizo even admitted to a detective that &#8220;we only had sex one time&#8221; and acknowledged possessing nude images of the young victim on his phone, <a href="https://sgfcitizen.org/government/crime/springfield-man-charged-rape/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to the Springfield Daily Citizen.
Authorities arrested Escobar-Guarnizo in Greene County, Missouri, in 2024 after the child&#8217;s mother contacted law enforcement upon discovering her daughter was pregnant, the local news outlet reported.
The illegal immigrant was convicted on charges related to the sexual exploitation of a minor, which led to his <a href="https://www.aol.com/news/springfield-man-sentenced-child-sex-170440352.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sentence</a> of 25 years in federal prison. He was also hit with a charge of first-degree statutory rape, according to the report.
Detectives collected DNA from the unborn child, the victim, and Escobar-Guarnizo as part of the investigation. Test results later found that “Brayanne Escobar-Guarnizo cannot be excluded as the biological father of the child,&#8221; adding &#8220;The probability of paternity is 99.999%.” The victim reportedly later terminated the pregnancy.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) assisted local authorities in the investigation that led to Escobar-Guarnizo&#8217;s conviction and sentencing.
“This dirtbag was charged with production of child pornography and sexual exploitation of a minor after he raped and impregnated a 12-year-old girl,” Acting Assistant Homeland Security Secretary Lauren Bis said in a statement shared with The Daily Wire Thursday.
“Thanks to the investigative work of ICE law enforcement officers and our state and local partners, this child predator has now been sentenced to 25 years behind bars,&#8221; she added.
Bis also emphasized that the Trump administration has zero tolerance for criminal illegal immigrants.
&#8220;This illegal alien NEVER should have been allowed into our country by the Biden Administration. Under Secretary Mullin, we will continue to target criminal illegal aliens and get them OUT of our communities,&#8221; she said.
Escobar-Guarnizo entered the United States illegally under the Biden administration in 2023, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
After serving his time behind bars, Escobar-Guarnizo is required to be placed on supervised release for an additional 10 years, according to a <a href="https://www.aol.com/news/springfield-man-sentenced-child-sex-170440352.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a>. He was also referred to a sex offender treatment program. In such a case, the illegal immigrant will serve time for charges in the United States before facing potential deportation.

The Trump administration is revamping the immigration court system to speed up deportations.
In its latest move, the Department of Justice hired 82 immigration judges, the most in any single year, the agency <a href="https://www.justice.gov/eoir/media/1441841/dl?inline" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> Thursday. Now, the United States has nearly 700 immigration judges.
“The Trump administration is committed to reestablishing an immigration judge corps that is dedicated to restoring the rule [of] law in our nation’s immigration system,” said Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche. “Today, we are onboarding the largest immigration judge class in agency history.&#8221;
&#8220;This could only happen thanks to President Trump’s decisive leadership and commitment to securing our borders. I also applaud EOIR’s [Executive Office of Immigration Review] leadership team for helping facilitate these hiring efforts and recruiting highly qualified and talented personnel in record time.”
The new class includes 77 permanent judges and 5 temporary ones.
When President Donald Trump returned to the White House and commenced his mass deportation effort, administration officials began a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/how-trump-transformed-the-immigration-courts-to-speed-up-deportations">mass firing</a> of immigration judges who had largely granted asylum at higher rates.
Since then, administration officials have dismissed more than 100 immigration judges who granted asylum in 46% of cases, according to The New York Times.
Immigration judges have completed more than one million cases since Trump&#8217;s second inauguration, reducing the pending caseload by more than 447,000 cases, according to the Justice Department. There are currently roughly 3.53 million pending cases sitting in the immigration courts, down from roughly four million.
The Justice Department said it&#8217;s the sharpest decrease in the court&#8217;s history.
The latest hiring blitz is part of a broader effort to undo the damage the Biden administration&#8217;s border surge inflicted on the immigration court system in creating years-long backlogs.
Sirce Owen, then the acting director of EOIR, the Justice Department branch that oversees the immigration courts, issued a memo in April 2025 encouraging immigration judges to toss out asylum claims more rapidly and without a hearing.
In June 2025, Owen issued a separate memo threatening “disciplinary action” for immigration judges who exhibit “bias” towards illegal immigrants.
“Judges who would prefer to be policy advocates favoring either aliens or DHS should consider transitioning to alternate career paths,” Owen wrote in the memo.
In a recent <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/policy/immigration/4575734/tom-homan-insists-ice-not-narrowing-deportation-agenda/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview</a> with the Washington Examiner, White House border czar Tom Homan touted the Trump administration&#8217;s record of 800,000 deportations.
“Total of 800,000 [have been removed] out of the country,” Homan said. “If you take 60% of that, criminals, hundreds of thousands of public safety threats, have been removed from this country. Name another president who’s done that.”
Homan admitted that the effort has slowed down recently, but indicated that the delay is only temporary.
“There’s a lot of argument within the world that, ‘Are we keeping our promise?’” Homan said. “Numbers are slightly down, but there’s a plan. Get them back up and even higher.”

Moments later, he reappeared as I was standing on the street outside his home. Lin-Chan came out of the residence while recording on his phone as he asked: &#8220;Can I see your ID?,&#8221; adding &#8220;Because you just take picture of me.&#8221;
He then ignored another question about the lawsuit. This time, we asked if there were pregnant Chinese women inside the home.
&#8220;I&#8217;m sorry I can&#8217;t give you any information now,&#8221; he said before walking back inside.

The practice of so-called Chinese birth tourism is coming under increasing scrutiny, with Peter Schweizer, President of the Government Accountability Institute, <a href="https://www.judiciary.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/08cf7ed3-aa64-3b6b-3268-21f7d9feb233/2026-03-10_Testimony_Schweizer.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">testifying</a> to the U.S. Senate in March that &#8220;possibly&#8221; up to 1.5 million Chinese babies have been born in the U.S. in order to obtain citizenship and the right to return in the future, with the intention of being raised in China.
Further concerns related to Chinese intrusion into American affairs center around foreign-government backed purchasing of U.S. farmland, and the recent spate of Chinese-intelligence gathering incidents, such as the recent federal indictment accusing Arcadia, CA Mayor Eileen Wang of acting as an agent of the People’s Republic of China. Wang has since agreed to plead guilty in the case.
One of the center&#8217;s recent TikTok videos encourages women to apply for American tourist visas “before pregnancy,” stating that the federal government “will strictly investigate birth tourism,” adding, “It is easy to be rejected if you sign after pregnancy.”
The center also “claims to offer a variety of options for tourism while expectant families await the birth of their child,” that include a “luxury chauffeured black-car service across the Houston area for its high-paying guests, purportedly to visit the variety of different locales advertised on its social media page, including the spring bluebonnets in Brenham, Texas, the Houston Rodeo, Christmas light shows in Houston, and the Louvre Couture exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts,” the lawsuit states.

Neighbors of the properties said they had little to no interaction with the alleged birthing center residents, with some reporting seeing multiple vehicles crammed in the driveways.
David, who declined to share his last name out of concern for his safety, said he&#8217;s seen many different people going in and out of one of the homes.
&#8220;I&#8217;ve seen this in Asian households, like a bunch of family members living there. That&#8217;s what it looked like,&#8221; he said.
Harris County Deputy Constable Craig Cummings told The Daily Wire that his office encourages community members to report such suspicious activity &#8220;so that we can act on it.&#8221;
He said if neighbors observe that many people are packed in one home, it&#8217;s cause for concern.
&#8220;It&#8217;s not ordinary, but it&#8217;s also something that we&#8217;re aware of. When we start looking at multiple people in a home, we start thinking that this may be some nexus to human trafficking. Clearly, having a large number of people in a home is not normal,&#8221; he said.
Nonimmigrant visas, such as tourist visas, &#8220;are reserved for temporary visits for business or pleasure, with applicants bearing the burden of proving they intend to depart after their authorized stay&#8221; and not &#8220;for the primary purpose of obtaining U.S. citizenship for a child by giving birth in the United States,&#8221; immigration lawyer Matthew Kolken told The Daily Wire.
&#8220;In sum, visiting temporarily for pleasure does not include travel for the primary purpose of obtaining U.S. citizenship for a child by giving birth in the United States,&#8221; Kolken said.
Committing such immigration fraud &#8220;results in a lifetime bar to admissibility&#8221; to the United States, according to Kolken.
President Donald Trump signed an executive order ending birthright citizenship on his second Inauguration Day. The order has been paused due to multiple legal challenges.
Its fate now sits before the Supreme Court, which heard oral arguments on April 1 in the presence of Trump.
“We are the only Country in the World STUPID enough to allow ‘Birthright’ Citizenship!” Trump posted on Truth Social shortly after the conclusion of the oral arguments.

In 1960, nearly 85% of prime-age adults (those between 25 and 54) were married. Today, that figure has collapsed to roughly 54%.
However, the topline marriage data conceals that America’s marriage rate is propped up by immigrants. While 64% of foreign-born adults in America are married, fewer than 52% of native-born American adults are married. That&#8217;s a 12-point gap. Without the steady arrival of immigrants who still prioritize marriage, America&#8217;s marriage rate would be even lower and, consequently, so would the birth rate.

At first, one may think that immigrants are more likely to be married because many of them arrive through marriage. But two facts disprove this argument. First, there was no gap in the marriage rate between immigrants and natives as early as 1970. And second, when we divide immigrants by how old they were when they first came to the United States, it becomes clear that the younger immigrants are when they arrive in the United States, the more they look like the average American when it comes to marriage. Culture is driving the decline in marriage, and immigrants and their children are unfortunately assimilating into America’s low-marriage culture.
When you look only at immigrants who arrived in the United States before turning 18, and thus well before marriage-based immigration could explain their presence, they still marry at a higher rate than native-born Americans. But when you compare immigrants who arrived before age 10 to those who arrived as teenagers, the pattern is unmistakable: the more years an immigrant spends growing up in America, the less likely they are to ever marry. <a href="https://manhattan.institute/article/the-vanishing-immigrant-marriage-advantage-how-assimilation-leads-to-fewer-marriages">The marriage gap</a> between native-born Americans and immigrants who arrived as young children has completely vanished this century.

This is what assimilation looks like, except in this case, it is a bad thing. Immigrants aren&#8217;t bringing some exotic disease called &#8220;low marriage rates&#8221; with them. They&#8217;re catching it in America.
It raises a question that should haunt every American who still believes families are the building blocks of a free society: What exactly are immigrants assimilating to?
The answer becomes even more disturbing when you look at the second generation, that is, the U.S.-born children of immigrants. Second-generation Americans grew up in households with two married parents under one roof at rates their native-born peers did not. They lived in <a href="https://www.nber.org/papers/w19843">neighborhoods</a> that were more likely to provide upward mobility, and they enjoyed unparalleled opportunity in the richest country on earth. By every reasonable theory of how culture is transmitted, they should be the strongest defenders of marriage.
Yet, they aren&#8217;t. The children of immigrants don&#8217;t just match the marriage rates of multigenerational Americans; they often underperform them.
Among college graduates, the children of immigrants are less likely to marry than college graduates whose families have been here for generations. The pattern holds across every major ethnic group: white, black, Hispanic, and Asian. The kids who grew up with married parents are now marrying at lower rates than the kids who didn&#8217;t.
After controlling for age, education, and ethnicity, Americans with one immigrant parent marry at a rate 3.3% less than their multigenerational peers. For Americans with two immigrant parents, the gap widens 4.8 percentage points. Whatever cultural advantage their parents brought from abroad reverses in a single generation.
The most striking case is among black Americans. Black immigrants marry at a higher rate than native-born blacks. While about 55% of black immigrants aged 35–39 are married, only 35% of native-born blacks are married at the same age. Yet second-generation black Americans marry at roughly the same rate as multigenerational native-born black Americans.
The same story repeats in every ethnic and educational subgroup. Approximately 85% of Asian immigrants in their late 30s are married — the highest rate of any subgroup studied, and consistent whether they have a college education or not. Yet only 63% of the American-born children of Asian immigrants get married: over a 20-point drop from the Asian immigrant rate. A similar phenomenon occurs in Hispanic immigrants&#8217; marriage prospects, which collapses to match native-born Hispanics in a single generation.

So what are young Americans assimilating to? They&#8217;re assimilating to an American culture that increasingly treats marriage as optional and unnecessary. The children of immigrants are immersed in a culture saturated with messaging that careers come first, that commitment is risky, and that families are a &#8220;lifestyle choice&#8221; rather than the foundation of human flourishing.
The sad consequence of immigrant marriage assimilation is that the third generation won’t be as numerous or prosperous as the second. For defenders and detractors of immigration alike, this poses ironic challenges. Defenders of immigration often point to the fact that immigrants exhibit conservative values by being more likely to marry, but this doesn’t last. Opponents often say that immigrants don’t assimilate, but in this case, they do, however undesirable. If immigrants and their children marry less often, then they will have fewer children and should be less threatening to the native population in the eyes of opponents.
The decline of marriage isn&#8217;t mainly a story about economics, but one about culture. The children of immigrants are marrying less often than their peers whose families have been here for generations and whose parents were less likely to be married. Immigrants are assimilating into American marriage norms. Conservatives really shouldn’t want that to happen.

The Justice Department is pushing to strip several terror suspects of their American citizenship as part of a massive denaturalization effort.
In recent months, the Trump administration has kicked off a campaign to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-admin-opens-door-to-yanking-citizenship-as-part-of-war-on-fraud" target="_blank" rel="noopener">denaturalize</a> foreign-born United States citizens, securing 15 denaturalization orders as of April. In total, the Department of Justice has filed 35 denaturalization complaints.
By comparison, the federal government secured 54 denaturalizations under the Biden administration, the DOJ said.
This week alone, the Trump administration filed denaturalization cases against 12 individuals, some of whom are accused of terror ties.
Among them is Somali-born Salah Osman Ahmed, 43, who &#8220;began providing material support&#8221; to the terrorist group al-Shabaab just months after he became an American citizen in 2007, according to the Justice Department.
At one point, Ahmed flew to Somalia to join the U.S.-designated terrorist organization and &#8220;fight and kill Ethiopians,&#8221; the department said. He pleaded guilty to providing material support to terrorists in 2009.
Under federal law, individuals can be denaturalized if they join a terrorist organization within five years of becoming a citizen. Authorities may also pursue denaturalization in cases where citizenship was obtained through fraud or misrepresentation.
Another case involves Khalid Ouazzani, 48, who prosecutors say &#8220;was planning—with two men later convicted of trying to bomb the New York Stock Exchange—ways to support Al-Qaeda&#8221; as early as 2003, roughly three years before he became a naturalized U.S. citizen. The Trump administration is now pursuing a denaturalization case against him.
In 2007, one year after obtaining his citizenship, the Morocco-born man allegedly &#8220;sent Al-Qaeda tens of thousands of dollars in financial support with money that he had fraudulently obtained.&#8221;
The next year, &#8220;he took an oath of allegiance&#8221; to the terror group. Ouazzani pleaded guilty to bank fraud, money laundering, and providing material support to Al-Qaeda in 2010.
Ali Yousif Ahmed, 48, an Iraqi national, is also facing denaturalization. He came to the United States in 2009, claiming he and his family were attacked by Al-Qaeda, according to the Justice Department. The Iraqi government contacted the federal government in 2019, requesting that Ahmed be extradited to face criminal charges for the premeditated murder of two Iraqi police officers in 2006.
Ahmed was accused of murdering the officers while serving as an Al-Qaeda leader.
The Justice Department accused Ahmed of &#8220;illegally&#8221; obtaining American citizenship by lying &#8220;under oath about his criminal and family history.&#8221;
The Trump administration&#8217;s latest crackdown commenced as part of President Donald Trump’s “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-admin-opens-door-to-yanking-citizenship-as-part-of-war-on-fraud" target="_blank" rel="noopener">war on fraud</a>,” with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) “prioritizing those who’ve unlawfully obtained U.S. citizenship — especially under the previous administration” for denaturalization.
The Trump administration gave USCIS orders to pursue “100-200 denaturalization cases per month,” <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/12/17/us/politics/trump-immigration-citizenship-denaturalization.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to The New York Times.

An illegal immigrant hid in the ceiling of a women&#8217;s bathroom in a Florida church while recording video on his phone, according to authorities.
The Fort Walton Beach Police Department arrested Panamanian illegal immigrant Aquilino Sanjur Ortega on Sunday after receiving a call about a possible armed person at Grace Church during a religious service. One woman said that while she was inside the women&#8217;s restroom, &#8220;she observed a mobile phone positioned above the ceiling with its camera pointed downward in her direction,&#8221; police <a href="https://www.facebook.com/fwbpd/posts/pfbid02BeudRCiPUCdk3ycUCELR71UDLdc3pPm2gD3TxEgviCoxoXhmPNGUGVznTBJq7iPMl?rdid=GIAivwzSYIKbGnwu#" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.
The woman &#8220;immediately&#8221; left the restroom and informed church staff.
Parishioners evacuated from the building before officers arrived at the scene, according to authorities. Witnesses told the officers that a man was hiding in the women&#8217;s restroom ceiling, which they confirmed after entering the church.
Ortega, who was unarmed, was swiftly arrested.
Ortega is charged with video voyeurism and disturbing a religious assembly.
Ortega came to the United States in March 2007 with a tourism visa that expired that September, federal law enforcement sources told The Daily Wire. Because Ortega overstayed his visa by nearly two decades, he&#8217;s considered an illegal immigrant.
As a result, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lodged a detainer with the Okaloosa County Jail. Local authorities are likely to honor the request and hand Ortega over to federal authorities for eventual deportation.
He is being held on a $250,000 bond.
&#8220;Under President Trump and Secretary Mullin, criminal illegal aliens are not welcome in the U.S.,&#8221; the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) told The Daily Wire in response to the case.
Upon his return to the White House, President Donald Trump stripped churches, schools, and hospitals of protections that prevented ICE from entering. They were previously considered &#8220;sensitive&#8221; locations that ICE could not enter or go near.
“This action empowers the brave men and women in CBP [Customs and Border Protection] and ICE to enforce our immigration laws and catch criminal aliens — including murderers and rapists — who have illegally come into our country. Criminals will no longer be able to hide in America’s schools and churches to avoid arrest,” DHS <a href="https://apnews.com/article/immigration-enforcement-sensitive-locations-trump-ab0d2d2652e9df696f14410ebb52a1fc" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> at the time of the policy change.
Trump&#8217;s border czar, Tom Homan, has said that ICE attempts to avoid those institutions. But if an illegal immigrant criminal tries to hide inside a church, ICE may go in to arrest them, Homan <a href="https://www.facebook.com/reel/2609704789400477" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> while leading immigration operations in Minneapolis in February.
&#8220;Those locations are not off the table. I&#8217;ve said from day one, there&#8217;s no sanctuary for a significant public safety threat or a national security threat,&#8221; he said at the time.

Nearly a decade ago, he led an attempted coup d&#8217;etat in the West African nation of Burkina Faso.
Zakaria Songotoua, 40, fled his country and eventually ended up in New York, and has since become a target of President Donald Trump&#8217;s mass deportation effort, The Daily Wire has learned. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers sent him back to Burkina Faso on April 22.
The one-way flight came after Songotoua was ordered deported by an immigration judge after he was found &#8220;ineligible&#8221; for immigration status.
Songotoua participated in the coup attempt which began on September 16, 2015, while he was a member of the Presidential Security Regiment (RSP). At the time, a rogue group of his force stormed the presidential palace and took the interim president, Michel Kafando, along with the country&#8217;s prime minister, Lt. Col. Isaac Zida, and several cabinet members hostage, The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2015/09/30/world/africa/burkina-faso.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
They also fired upon protesters, resulting in an estimated 11 fatalities, while more than 100 people were injured. The overthrow attempt ultimately failed after 13 days of violence and chaos, according to The New York Times.
Songotoua fled his home country before his trial, where he was convicted in absentia of murder, assault and battery, and an attack on state security. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations New York City Field Office Director Kenneth Genalo said that &#8220;individuals&#8221; like Songotoua &#8220;who engage in such bloodshed anywhere in the world have no place in the United States.&#8221;
ICE did not disclose when or where he entered the United States.
“Songotoua’s role in the violent 2015 effort to overthrow Burkina Faso’s government, which included holding a national leader hostage and killing and injuring protesters, reflects a grave disregard for human life and the rule of law,&#8221; Genalo said in a statement shared with The Daily Wire.
Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents investigated the case as part of the Document and Benefit Fraud Task Force, which focuses on targeting individuals who have participated in persecution, war crimes, genocide, torture, extrajudicial killings, female genital mutilation, and the use or recruitment of child soldiers, ICE said.
HSI has more than 190 active investigations into suspected human rights violators. The agency has also received more than 1,985 leads and removal cases involving alleged human rights violators who hail from 95 countries.
&#8220;ERO [Enforcement and Removal Operations] New York, with essential support from Homeland Security Investigations New York and the Human Rights Violators and War Crimes Center, will continue to identify and remove human rights violators who attempt to seek refuge in our communities,&#8221; Genalo said.
