WASHINGTON — As President Donald Trump&#8217;s White House game-planned how to message the Jeffrey Epstein files during the summer of 2025, Dan Bongino was growing increasingly frustrated and angry.
He understood the vast interest in Jeffrey Epstein online, and he had repeatedly sounded the alarm to Trump&#8217;s team that the outcry over the DOJ&#8217;s bungling of the Epstein files was gaining momentum, as Jonathan Swan and Maggie Haberman reported for their book “Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump.”
Back in July 2025, the president wasn&#8217;t yet interested in releasing the files. The DOJ had briefed him on the contents of what they had, noting that much of it included child sexual abuse material and that a lot of the raw records contained unverified and unsubstantiated information, including about the president and some of his friends. The White House viewed the conversation as toxic and unnecessary (the president would later call out Democrats&#8217; new fixation on the files as a &#8220;hoax&#8221;).
Trump&#8217;s advisors argued at the time that the president had weathered every possible media storm — and he could weather this Epstein one as well. Ultimately, the House and Senate would vote to pass the Epstein Files Transparency Act in November 2025, and Trump would sign it into law the same month. The files would be released in massive dumps in December and January.
But during the summer of 2025, Bongino repeatedly told the White House that Team Trump wasn&#8217;t grasping how big of a deal the Epstein drama was, telling White House advisors, according to The New York Times: “It’s not an online story. You don’t understand.”
Things came to a head when the DOJ and FBI put out a memo saying that they had concluded that there was no evidence Epstein had a client list. It also said that Epstein&#8217;s death was a suicide, that the Trump administration wouldn&#8217;t be releasing any more information about the Epstein case, and that no further investigation was warranted.
At the same time, they also released 11 hours of video footage from the Manhattan jail where Epstein was found dead. That surveillance video actually made matters worse, since it was missing a pivotal minute, from 11:58:58 to midnight on the night that Epstein died. That missing minute was later released, but it had only fueled angry speculation about a coverup.
Bongino was enraged by the memo and by the handling of the entire situation. He had argued to Patel that it would not at all align with their transparency promises, the NYT reports, and he pushed hard for the FBI seal to be left off the letter. While Patel reportedly agreed with Bongino on many points, he ultimately went along with what the DOJ and White House wanted.
In what Haberman and Swan described as a &#8220;volcanic mood,&#8221; Bongino shouted at Bondi in a Justice Department meeting with FBI staff.
“You f*cked this thing up from the start,” Bongino allegedly yelled at the former attorney general. “The way you’ve been talking about this — that dumb f*cking charade with the Epstein files, the ‘They’re on my desk’ nonsense, all the promises to the folks out there.”

Bongino and Patel were reportedly called into a Situation Room meeting with Susie Wiles, Pam Bondi, Todd Blanche, and Taylor Budowich two days later. Wiles immediately asked Bongino if he had leaked a story about Epstein and Trump to ABC News, the New York Times reports.

“I’ll tell you what,” Bongino reportedly replied. “I’ll give you $100,000 cash right now. I’m not kidding. Walk out to West Exec, put that reporter on speaker and get him to admit I leaked it. A hundred thousand dollars.”
When Wiles started to tell Bongino that &#8220;we all got ourselves into this,&#8221; he allegedly cut her off, saying, “No, no, no, no, no. We didn’t get ourselves into anything. I warned you guys about this the whole time, and you ignored me. And exactly what I said was going to happen happened. And now you’re pretending I was in on this. I was never in on this.”
His response startled the rest of the group, particularly given that Wiles was the White House chief of staff. Wiles reportedly pressed forward, telling Bongino, “Going forward, we’re all in. We’re all going to agree to move forward. Are you in or not?”
He reportedly responded: “No, I’m not. This is not my plan. I’m not part of this going forward. Forget it. I’m out of here.”
And, in an even more shocking move, Bongino &#8220;stormed out of the Situation Room and onto West Executive Avenue, where he climbed into the back of Patel’s armored SUV and directed the driver to take him to FBI headquarters.&#8221;
MAGA world lit up with rumors that Bongino would resign. Sources close to Bongino at the time <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bondi-or-bongino-bongino-wont-remain-at-fbi-if-bondi-keeps-job-source-says">told Daily Wire</a> that he was threatening to leave the bureau if Bondi remained on the job, effectively issuing an ultimatum.
Patel also wanted Bondi gone, sources close to the FBI chief told The Daily Wire, saying that Patel would consider leaving the FBI if Bongino left.
“Blondie f*cked this whole thing up,” Bongino told a confidant, The New York Times reported. He was using a nickname for the attorney general coined by outspoken Bondi critic Laura Loomer. “She was the one on TV saying over and over they had all this stuff. There was never anything.&#8221;
&#8220;We were always clear about that,&#8221; Bongino emphasized, according to the Times. &#8220;But now everyone thinks we did something wrong. And I gave up everything.”
He stayed on until January 2026, when he resigned from the bureau and returned to hosting his &#8220;Dan Bongino Show.&#8221;
&#8220;Dan did a great job,&#8221; Trump told reporters, as news of Bongino&#8217;s departure broke. &#8220;I think he wants to go back to his show.&#8221;

Former Attorney General Pam Bondi had made things difficult for Patel and Bongino when she promised in a February 2025 Fox News interview that the Epstein list was &#8220;sitting&#8221; on her &#8220;desk right now to review.&#8221;
Her possibly greater misstep occurred during a White House briefing with influencers on the president&#8217;s agenda, according to the NYT. During that briefing, Bondi and her team walked into the Roosevelt Room carrying boxes and handed out binders to the influencers that she described as &#8220;The Epstein files.&#8221;
Swan and Haberman write that &#8220;the blood pressure of other officials in the room skyrocketed&#8221; — they did not know what was in the binders, and the binders hadn&#8217;t been vetted by the White House.
The president was about to meet with Prime Minister Keir Starmer before the press, and the news might possibly blindside him.
&#8220;One official, opening the binder, began flipping through pages to see if Trump’s name was mentioned anywhere,&#8221; they wrote. &#8220;A few pages in, right in the middle of the page, there it was.&#8221;
The binders didn&#8217;t actually contain anything meaningfully new, but after the influencers took photos in front of the White House holding them, word spread like wildfire on social media. Not only did the influencers feel duped by the lack of substance in the binders, but many of Trump&#8217;s supporters were seething on social media over what they saw as Bondi playing showman with the files without releasing anything meaningful.
The Epstein files, which will have all been released as of July 2026, include many mentions of Trump&#8217;s name but have not been found to include substantiated allegations against the president.

The DOJ noted that the batch released in January contained numerous “sensationalist” claims submitted right before the 2020 election, in an apparent attempt to stop Trump from winning the presidential election. Many of those claims don&#8217;t even include callback numbers, such as one graphic claim that the president raped a 13-year-old girl.
“Just as President Trump has said, he’s been totally exonerated on anything relating to Epstein,&#8221; White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson told The Daily Wire on Wednesday.
&#8220;And by releasing thousands of pages of documents, cooperating with the House Oversight Committee’s subpoena request, signing the Epstein Files Transparency Act, and calling for more investigations into Epstein’s Democrat friends, President Trump has done more for Epstein’s victims than anyone before him,&#8221; she added.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) said on Tuesday night that the committee plans to question the former corrections officer who searched for information about pedophile Jeffrey Epstein less than an hour before he was found dead in his New York City jail cell on August 10, 2019.
The New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/03/07/us-news/prison-guard-googled-jeffrey-epstein-minutes-before-his-body-was-found-and-deposited-thousands-days-before-pedophiles-suicide-doj/">reported</a> last Saturday that former Metropolitan Correctional Center guard Tova Noel googled &#8220;latest on Epstein in jail&#8221; at 5:42 a.m. and again at 5:52 a.m. before Epstein was found dead at 6:30 a.m., according to FBI records. Chase Bank also flagged numerous &#8220;suspicious&#8221; deposits into Noel&#8217;s bank account between April of 2018 and November of 2019, with the largest deposit of $5,000 coming on July 30, 2019, according to the Post, which reviewed DOJ documents.
Noel will now be asked to appear before the committee for an interview, Comer <a href="https://x.com/JesseBWatters/status/2031535459940155536">told</a> Fox News host Jesse Watters.
&#8220;The recent media reports &#8230; [are] very concerning, especially the suspicious activity report on a $5,000 mysterious deposit that she had,&#8221; Comer told Watters. &#8220;And the reason that stands out to me, Jesse, is because very seldom are suspicious activity reports even reported for sums less than $10,000.&#8221;
Noel, who was also accused of falsifying guard shift records the night before Epstein was found dead, is believed to be the last corrections officer to see Epstein alive.
&#8220;So because of this, because of the media reports and because of the fact that, honestly, most people on the committee aren&#8217;t confident 100% that Epstein&#8217;s death was by suicide, we&#8217;re going to ask Ms. Noel to come in for a transcribed interview,&#8221; Comer said. &#8220;Again, no one is accusing her of any wrongdoing, but we have a lot of questions about Epstein.&#8221;
Noel is also believed to be the mysterious blur that was <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/jeffrey-epstein-jail-video-investigation/">caught on camera</a> moving near Epstein&#8217;s cell with orange linen the night before he died, according to the Justice Department. Epstein apparently killed himself using extra linen that was in his cell. Noel reportedly told investigators that she &#8220;never gave out linen&#8221; to inmates, since that was always done during the previous shift. She also denied googling Epstein shortly before he was found dead.
DOJ investigators interviewed Noel following Epstein&#8217;s apparent suicide, and her lawyers said she did not have any part in Epstein&#8217;s death. The Justice Department did not ask Noel about the numerous cash deposits that were flagged by Chase as &#8220;suspicious activity,&#8221; the Post reported.
Noel and her fellow guard, Michael Thomas, were accused of falling asleep on the job and admitted to falsifying their reports to cover up for missing checks on Epstein, which they were supposed to conduct every 30 minutes.
Noel and Thomas were arrested and charged in November of 2019, but a federal judge later <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2022/01/03/us/jeffrey-epstein-officers-dismissed-charges-judge">dismissed</a> the charges after prosecutors struck a deal in exchange for &#8220;truthful information related to their employment by the Bureau of Prisons.&#8221;

Whoopi Goldberg and her cohosts on ABC&#8217;s &#8220;The View&#8221; suggested during Tuesday&#8217;s broadcast that President Donald Trump may have started a war with Iran to keep the American people distracted from the Epstein files and the Nancy Guthrie kidnapping case.
Goldberg raised the possibility first, saying it was &#8220;nutty as hell&#8221; that a major military conflict — involving a known bad actor and American interests and allies in the Middle East — was sucking up all the oxygen in the media space and arguing that it was an intentional play to redirect public focus.

The panel then pivoted to claim that the Trump administration viewed members of the military as &#8220;cannon fodder.&#8221;
Cohost Sara Haines said that anyone who waged war should keep the human cost in mind, and Goldberg immediately claimed that the Trump administration did not do that.
&#8220;They don&#8217;t have that feeling, because to them, we&#8217;re cannon fodder,&#8221; she claimed. &#8220;They don&#8217;t care, you know? It&#8217;s how — It&#8217;s why they — it&#8217;s how they also treat our vets. It tells you a lot. You&#8217;ve heard him talk about vets.&#8221;

Five Republicans joined all Democrats in attendance on the GOP-led House Oversight Committee in passing a motion to subpoena U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi to testify on the administration&#8217;s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein investigation.
Wednesday&#8217;s vote means Bondi could soon be in front of the same committee that grilled former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton over their ties to Epstein last week. The motion was proposed by Republican Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina and supported by Reps. Lauren Boebert (R-CO), Tim Burchett (R-TN), Michael Cloud (R-TX), and Scott Perry (R-PA), along with every Democrat who was present for a 24-19 vote.
&#8220;AG Bondi will testify about missing Epstein evidence. The videos, the audio, the documents the DOJ is hiding,&#8221; Mace <a href="https://x.com/RepNancyMace/status/2029305372813533324">said</a>. &#8220;The American people deserve transparency. Survivors deserve justice. We&#8217;re delivering both. Accountability is coming.&#8221;
It would not be the first time for Bondi to testify under oath about her handling of the Epstein case. The attorney general faced numerous questions from Democrats and Republican Rep. Thomas Massie during a House Judiciary Committee hearing last month. Bondi blasted Democrats&#8217; focus on the Epstein case as a &#8220;circus.&#8221;
Bondi has faced intense scrutiny since she suggested last year that Epstein&#8217;s so-called client list was sitting on her desk, but later clarified that she was referring to a file on the Epstein case, not an actual client list. When the Justice Department closed its investigation into Epstein in July, it said that it found no evidence of a client list.
The Justice Department has also been criticized for its messy rollout of the millions of documents and tens of thousands of images related to the Epstein case. After the final file dump in late January, the Justice Department scrambled to remove unredacted nude images of young women. Other files had to be removed because they revealed personal information of people, which should have been redacted, including full names and addresses.
After the final Epstein document dump in January, the Justice Department took down more than 47,000 files, which made up around 65,000 total pages, as it worked to redact sensitive information. While those files contain some of the sensitive photos and information that should have been redacted, it&#8217;s unclear why most of the 65,000 pages continue to be held by the Trump administration. Mace accused the Justice Department of hiding the missing 65,000 pages.
“We’re gonna be talking about real, substantive issues, like the 65,000 documents that are being hidden by the DOJ right now,” Mace <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2026/03/04/pam-bondi-subpoena-epstien-00812960">said</a> after voting to subpoena Bondi.
Robert Garcia, the ranking Democrat on the Oversight Committee, <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/house/5767681-pam-bondi-subpoena-epstein-files-oversight/">said</a> before the vote, &#8220;Look, the American public has significant questions about the DOJ and the process for releasing of the files. … I think it’s important that [Bondi] is in front of our committee, she can directly answer questions about the release of the files, about transparency, about ensuring that victims and survivors are protected.&#8221;
After the Clintons were deposed last week, Democrats called for the committee to subpoena President Donald Trump, arguing that the Republican effort to grill the Clintons &#8220;set a new precedent.&#8221;
While Trump has not been accused of any wrongdoing related to Epstein&#8217;s crimes, the Epstein case has been a thorn in his administration&#8217;s side for most of his second term. On Tuesday, Trump&#8217;s Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick agreed to testify before the Oversight Committee on his ties to Epstein.

Former President Bill Clinton visibly froze when he was asked to explain why the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein might have said that he &#8220;likes them young.&#8221;
Clinton, deposed by several members of Congress in the ongoing Epstein probe, appeared to freeze the moment the question was asked about Epstein before his attorney jumped in quickly to rephrase the question for him before he answered.

&#8220;Did you know one of the witnesses who testified in the Epstein cases said that you, quote, &#8216;like them young.&#8217; Why would Epstein say that about you?&#8221; Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) posed the question.
Clinton stared straight ahead, but his attorney pounced immediately: &#8220;Are you asking his opinion? Are you asking him to think about why Mr. Epstein would say something about him?&#8221;
&#8220;Correct. Why would Epstein say that about the president?&#8221; Mace pressed.
The attorney jumped into motion again, quickly reframing the question before Clinton could begin to answer, saying, &#8220;So she&#8217;s asking you to try to be in Mr. Epstein&#8217;s mind and guess at what Mr. Epstein would have thought about —&#8221;
&#8220;First of all —&#8221; Clinton began, but was cut off as Mace interrupted.
&#8220;&#8216;Clinton likes them young,&#8217; referring to girls,&#8221; she repeated.
After a long pause, Clinton tried again.
&#8220;First of all,&#8221; he said, and then paused again before adding, &#8220;That&#8217;s not true.&#8221;
&#8220;What&#8217;s not true?&#8221; Mace asked.
&#8220;That I have any interest in underage girls,&#8221; Clinton said.
&#8220;I didn&#8217;t say underage, Mr. President,&#8221; Mace interjected. &#8220;I said young.&#8221;
&#8220;That&#8217;s still not true,&#8221; Clinton said, his voice rising slightly as he pushed back from the table.
Mace&#8217;s follow-up question, clearly referencing his former intern Monica Lewinsky, also appeared to take the former president off guard: &#8220;Is an intern young?&#8221;
&#8220;Yes,&#8221; Clinton conceded, but quickly added, &#8220;At my age, anybody younger than I am is young.&#8221;
Lewinsky was just 22 and working as an intern in the White House when Clinton, then 49, began an extramarital affair with her. The affair lasted 18 months and when their relationship became a public scandal in 1998, Clinton initially denied everything.
The former president, throughout the deposition, insisted that he had never witnessed Epstein doing anything that would have led him to believe that the late convicted pedophile had ever been involved in trafficking underage girls.

U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick agreed to testify on his connection to Jeffrey Epstein as part of the House Oversight Committee&#8217;s investigation into Epstein and his circle of powerful friends.
Lutnick told <a href="https://www.axios.com/2026/03/03/lutnick-epstein-files-testify-house">Axios</a> on Tuesday that he volunteered for the Epstein deposition, maintaining that he did &#8220;nothing wrong&#8221; and wants &#8220;to set the record straight.&#8221; President Donald Trump&#8217;s Commerce secretary once lived next door to Epstein in Manhattan and visited Epstein&#8217;s infamous Caribbean island in 2012, four years after Epstein pled guilty to soliciting a minor for prostitution. Lutnick has not been accused of any wrongdoing related to Epstein&#8217;s sex crimes.
Lutnick is set to testify before the Republican-led Oversight Committee in the coming weeks, with the hearing taking place behind closed doors, similar to the hearings of former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who were grilled by lawmakers over their connection to Epstein last week.
&#8220;Secretary Lutnick has proactively agreed to appear voluntarily before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform,&#8221; committee chairman Rep. The deposition will likely focus heavily on Lutnick&#8217;s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-cabinet-secretary-confirms-he-visited-epsteins-island-with-wife-and-children-in-2012">lunch with Epstein</a> on the financier&#8217;s island on Christmas Eve in 2012. Last month, Lutnick testified under oath during a Senate Appropriations subcommittee hearing that he visited Epstein&#8217;s Little Saint James island while on vacation with his family.
&#8220;My wife was with me as were my four children and nannies. I had another couple — they were there as well with their children — and we had lunch on the island. That is true, for an hour, and then we left with all of my children, with my nannies and my wife all together,&#8221; Lutnick said.
A photo showing Lutnick with Epstein on Little Saint James was released as part of the Justice Department&#8217;s Epstein files dump in January, but the image was removed after it was made public. The Justice Department then released the photo again last week. A DOJ spokeswoman <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/photo-of-howard-lutnick-on-epsteins-island-was-removed-from-justice-department-files/">told</a> CBS News that the photo was flagged for nudity and taken down, but later restored after it was reviewed.

Lutnick was criticized for failing to mention the 2012 lunch on Epstein&#8217;s island when he told the New York Post’s Miranda Devine last year that after he and his wife first met Epstein in 2005, he vowed to never be in the same room as him. Lutnick suggested he and his wife were unnerved after Epstein gave them a tour of his home in Manhattan and pointed out a massage table “in the middle” of his home, making remarks about getting the &#8220;right kind of massage.&#8221;
“In the six or eight steps that it takes to get from his house to my house, my wife and I decided that I will never be in the room with that disgusting person ever again,” Lutnick told Devine last October. “So I was never in the room with him socially, for business, or even philanthropy. If that guy was there, I wasn’t going because he’s gross.”
Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) grilled Lutnick over his relationship with Epstein last month, saying, &#8220;Secretary Lutnick, I think you understand the root of concern here. It’s the way you described, very emphatically, your first encounter with him … [and] said you were disgusted and would never have any contact with him again.&#8221;
Lutnick told senators that he doesn’t remember “why we did it,” referring to the lunch with Epstein on his island, but said it was false “to suggest there was anything untoward about that.” The Trump official also said that he did not witness anything inappropriate when he was on the island with Epstein.
When asked about a potential Lutnick deposition, President Trump said last Friday that &#8220;Howard would go in and do whatever he has to say.&#8221;
&#8220;He&#8217;s a very innocent guy — doing a good job,&#8221; Trump added.
The White House <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-cabinet-secretary-confirms-he-visited-epsteins-island-with-wife-and-children-in-2012">told</a> The Daily Wire last month that President Donald Trump remains confident in Lutnick’s ability to lead the Commerce Department.
“President Trump has assembled the best and most transformative cabinet in modern history. The entire Trump administration, including Secretary Lutnick and the Department of Commerce, remains focused on delivering for the American people,” White House Spokesman Kush Desai said.
Lutnick&#8217;s quick agreement to testify before the House Oversight Committee is a sharp contrast with the Clintons&#8217; months-long fight with the committee as they fought subpoenas sent by Comer and did not show up for their scheduled deposition in January. The Clintons only agreed to testify after the House began contempt proceedings.
House Democrats have also called for President Trump to testify before the Oversight Committee, arguing that Republicans &#8220;set a new precedent&#8221; when they subpoenaed the Clintons.

Former President Bill Clinton offered an unprompted defense of President Donald Trump during his Jeffrey Epstein deposition before the House Oversight Committee last week.
Clinton seemed to say more than what his lawyers would have preferred multiple times throughout the deposition. At one point, he went beyond his initial answer to a Trump-related question from ranking Democrat Robert Garcia of California after Garcia had yielded his time.
When Garcia asked Clinton if he thinks Trump should also face questions from the Oversight Committee about his ties to Epstein, Clinton replied, &#8220;That&#8217;s for you to decide, but he did know him well.&#8221; Clinton then said that he and Trump &#8220;had a brief discussion&#8221; about Epstein.
Garcia ended his line of questioning after Clinton&#8217;s answer, but the former president then offered a longer response on President Trump.
&#8220;I hate this because I don&#8217;t want to inject anything,&#8221; Clinton said as one of his lawyers appeared unsure of what the former president was going to say next. &#8220;But I do not want to leave the impression — but since there was no follow-up question, the president never — this is 20-something years ago — never said anything to me to make me think he was involved with anything with regard to Epstein either.&#8221;
&#8220;He just didn&#8217;t,&#8221; Clinton added. &#8220;He just said, &#8216;We were friends, and then we had a falling out over a land deal or a property deal.'&#8221;

Clinton said he and Trump spoke about Epstein while they were playing a round on Trump&#8217;s golf course in 2002 or 2003. The former president testified he didn&#8217;t recall whether Trump brought up Epstein during their conversation, adding, &#8220;I would be shocked if I did.&#8221;
&#8220;He somehow knew I had flown in Jeffrey Epstein&#8217;s aircraft and he said, &#8216;We had some great times over the years, but we fell out all because of a real estate deal,'&#8221; Clinton added.
Last Friday, during a brief recess in Clinton&#8217;s deposition, House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) told reporters that Clinton had discussed President Trump and said Trump &#8220;has never said anything to me to make it seem like he was involved.&#8221; Shortly after Comer spoke to reporters, ranking member Garcia said that the chairman&#8217;s description wasn&#8217;t completely accurate.
&#8220;President Clinton did bring up some additional information about some discussions with President Trump. I think the way Chairman Comer described it, I don&#8217;t think is a complete accurate description of what actually was said,&#8221; Garcia told reporters.
Later in the deposition, Clinton reiterated that he has &#8220;no information that [Trump] did anything wrong.&#8221;
&#8220;I just want it all out there,&#8221; the former president added. &#8220;I want everybody to get it all out there and let everybody see where we are.&#8221;
Trump said on Friday that he didn&#8217;t believe Bill Clinton should have been deposed over his relationship with Epstein.
“I don’t like seeing him deposed,” Trump said, adding, “I like him.”
Democrats have repeatedly said they will push to subpoena Trump over his ties to Epstein after Republicans &#8220;set a new precedent&#8221; by deposing former President Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Former President Bill Clinton faced multiple questions surrounding a Jeffrey Epstein-related photo that showed him soaking in a hot tub with an unknown woman.
During his four-and-a-half-hour deposition before the House Oversight Committee last week, Clinton was handed the hot tub photo. The woman&#8217;s face was redacted in the Justice Department&#8217;s Epstein files dump.
The former president, who took dozens of trips with Epstein in the early 2000s, said that the photo was taken in Brunei, a small country in Southeast Asia. Clinton testified that he does not remember who the woman in the photo is.
&#8220;I had forgotten that there was anybody in the hot tub,&#8221; Clinton told lawmakers, adding, &#8220;I don&#8217;t know who that is.&#8221;
Asked if he engaged in any sexual activity with the woman in the photo, Clinton responded, &#8220;No.&#8221;

Clinton said the hot tub was in the same area as a large pool where other people were swimming when the photo was taken. Asked if anyone in the pool area was a minor, Clinton said, &#8220;No.&#8221; He also said that he believes a Secret Service agent was &#8220;at the other end of the pool.&#8221; Another photo released by the Justice Department shows Clinton swimming in the pool with Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell and a woman whose face was redacted.
Clinton said the pool area was not public and was on a hotel floor next to multiple suites where the former president and his team were staying on invitation from the sultan of Brunei. Clinton testified that he swam in the pool and enjoyed the hot tub for a brief time late at night before going to bed.
&#8220;I swam around, I sat in the hot tub for five minutes or whatever it was, and I got up and went to bed,&#8221; he said.

Clinton joined Epstein on the financier&#8217;s infamous airplane at least 26 times. Many of the trips were part of Clinton&#8217;s global AIDS initiative, according to the former president.
Clinton testified that he took his final flight on Epstein&#8217;s &#8220;Lolita Express&#8221; in 2003, five years before Epstein pleaded guilty to soliciting a child for prostitution. Asked why he stopped traveling with the well-connected financier, Clinton said that after his AIDS initiative &#8220;picked up steam,&#8221; he began receiving offers from other people he &#8220;knew better&#8221; and &#8220;really cared about the work&#8221; who wanted to help with transportation.
&#8220;I thought Mr. Epstein was an interesting man, but I didn&#8217;t think he was really interested in what I was doing,&#8221; he added. Clinton said he had an agreement with Epstein. The late financier would provide the private jet for transportation. On those trips, Clinton said he would chat with Epstein about politics and economics.
&#8220;He never asked me anything untoward,&#8221; Clinton said of Epstein. &#8220;It&#8217;s just I thought I had done what I promised, what I promised to do, and he had done what he promised to do. And I&#8217;ve always, over the years, with donors, tried not to overstay my welcome.&#8221;
Clinton said he first learned of Epstein&#8217;s sex crimes in 2008 when he pleaded guilty.
&#8220;There&#8217;s nothing that I saw when I was around him that made me realize he was trafficking women,&#8221; the former president added.

Former Secretary of State and first lady Hillary Clinton threatened to walk away from her Jeffrey Epstein testimony and dared Congress to hold her in contempt if she did, newly released video of her deposition reveals.
The videos of former President Bill Clinton and his wife&#8217;s Jeffrey Epstein depositions were released on Monday, allowing Americans to go behind the closed door hearings that took place last week. Both former President Clinton and Secretary Clinton&#8217;s videos are over four-and-a-half hours long as the Democrats were grilled about their connection to Epstein.
During Hillary Clinton&#8217;s deposition, she threatened to leave the room after a photo of her testifying was shared on social media. As the deposition began, Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado shared a photo of Hillary Clinton with conservative commentator Benny Johnson, who then posted it on X.
One of Hillary Clinton&#8217;s lawyers interrupted the hearing to ask if sharing the photo was consistent with House rules.
&#8220;I&#8217;m done with this if you guys are doing that!&#8221; the former secretary of state fumed. &#8220;You can hold me in contempt from now until the cows come home. This is just typical behavior.&#8221;
The deposition was briefly derailed as Hillary Clinton&#8217;s lawyers called for a break.
&#8220;I&#8217;m done for now,&#8221; Hillary Clinton added as she stood up and left her seat.

Hillary Clinton has never been accused of any wrongdoing related to Epstein&#8217;s crimes. While she maintains she never met Epstein, Clinton has acknowledged that she spoke with Epstein&#8217;s associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, “on a few occasions.”
Hillary Clinton&#8217;s testimony frustrated Republicans. The former senator and secretary of state often responded to questions by stating that she did &#8220;not recall&#8221; or by deferring to her husband.

Republicans on the Oversight Committee were mostly happy with Bill Clinton&#8217;s answers, with some GOP lawmakers even saying that the former president often spoke more candidly “than his attorneys were comfortable with.&#8221; Bill Clinton was close to Epstein before the financier pled guilty to soliciting a minor for prostitution in 2008. In the early 2000s, Bill Clinton traveled with Epstein numerous times and photos released recently by the Justice Department show the former president schmoozing with Epstein and Maxwell, as well as multiple photos that show Bill Clinton in a swimming pool with Maxwell and enjoying a hot tub with a woman whose face was redacted.
During the deposition, Bill Clinton testified that he does not know who the woman in the hot tub was. He said that there were also other people in the pool area when he was in the hot tub, including a Secret Service agent. When asked if he engaged in any sexual activity with the woman in the photo, Bill Clinton said, &#8220;No.&#8221;
The former president has not been accused of any wrongdoing related to Epstein&#8217;s sex crimes.

The Jeffrey Epstein-related deposition of former President Bill Clinton before the House Oversight Committee concluded around six hours after it began on Friday, with Clinton often getting &#8220;candid&#8221; with lawmakers.
The Republican lawmakers who attended the hearing said that Clinton was very cooperative as the former president attempted to answer each question from lawmakers and often spoke more candidly &#8220;than his attorneys were comfortable with.&#8221; House Committee Chairman James Comer, who oversaw the hearing, said the deposition was &#8220;historical.&#8221;
&#8220;I believe that in the history of Congress, the two highest ranking to ever be deposed by Congress would be President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton,&#8221; Comer added. &#8220;This is a serious investigation, and we will continue to try to get the truth to the American people and justice for the victims.&#8221;
Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina thanked Clinton for cooperating during the hearing.
&#8220;He did attempt to respond to every single question asked, even when his attorneys told him to shut up, he kept going,&#8221; Mace said.
Neither Clinton nor the Democratic committee members addressed the media outside after the hearing like the Republicans did.
The Oversight Committee said it will release video of both Bill and Hillary Clinton&#8217;s depositions within 24 hours, adding that transcripts of the hearings will be released once the Clintons&#8217; lawyers approve them. Comer promised to subpoena more people who were connected to Epstein to testify before the committee, but he didn&#8217;t reveal who the committee&#8217;s next target would be.
Earlier on Friday, Comer said that Clinton discussed President Donald Trump during his deposition on Jeffrey Epstein on Friday. Comer said that when Democrats asked former President Clinton what he knew about Trump&#8217;s relationship with Epstein, Clinton said that Trump never told him anything that would make it seem like Trump &#8220;was involved&#8221; with Epstein.
&#8220;I know there&#8217;s a lot of obsession about President Trump from the media &#8230; I want to make a statement because [the Democrats] probably won&#8217;t mention this when they come out here,&#8221; Comer said. &#8220;Ranking member [Robert] Garcia asked, &#8216;Should President Trump be called to answer questions from this committee?&#8217; And President Clinton said, &#8216;That&#8217;s for you to decide.&#8217; And [Clinton] went on to say, &#8216;President Trump has never said anything to me to make it seem like he was involved.'&#8221;
Earlier on Friday, President Donald Trump, who was also close to Epstein in the late 1990s and early 2000s, told reporters that he doesn&#8217;t believe Bill Clinton should have been deposed over his relationship with Epstein.

Despite Comer suggesting that Bill Clinton&#8217;s deposition would go &#8220;even longer&#8221; than his wife Hillary Clinton&#8217;s testimony, which lasted over six hours on Thursday, the hearing was finished around the same time as the former first lady&#8217;s. Republicans said that Hillary Clinton answered most of their questions, but they were disappointed that the former secretary of state and first lady told them around a dozen times, &#8220;You&#8217;ll have to ask my husband,&#8221; Comer said.
&#8220;So, we have a lot of questions for her husband tomorrow,&#8221; the House Oversight chairman <a href="https://x.com/GOPoversight/status/2027207016964300899">told</a> reporters on Thursday evening. &#8220;And I&#8217;m confident that deposition will last even longer than this one.&#8221;
Former President Clinton posted his opening statement on social media shortly after his closed-door testimony kicked off. In his statement, which was much shorter than that of his wife&#8217;s, the former president claimed that he &#8220;saw nothing&#8221; and &#8220;did nothing wrong.&#8221; He also said that members of Congress will likely hear him say &#8220;I don&#8217;t recall&#8221; numerous times during the deposition.
&#8220;That might be unsatisfying. But I&#8217;m not going to say something I&#8217;m not sure of,&#8221; Clinton added. &#8220;This was a long time ago, and I am bound by my oath not to speculate, or to guess.&#8221;

The &#8220;I don’t recall&#8221; line became closely associated with Bill Clinton during prior legal proceedings — most notably his 1998 grand jury testimony during the Monica Lewinsky investigation, where variations of memory-related responses were widely discussed and scrutinized.
Just before 12:30 p.m. ET, Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna of Florida gave an update to reporters and said Bill Clinton was &#8220;cooperative and answering questions.&#8221;
&#8220;I don&#8217;t have reason to believe he&#8217;s hiding the ball on anything. He&#8217;s been pretty transparent,&#8221; Luna added.
Before heading inside to begin Bill Clinton&#8217;s deposition on Friday, Comer called it &#8220;a historical day for the United States Congress.&#8221;
&#8220;We already had a big portfolio of questions for him, but that increased yesterday,&#8221; Comer added.
Republican Congresswoman Nancy Mace said on Friday morning that Hillary Clinton did not want to answer questions about the photos that show her husband hanging out with Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell, along with  unknown women. Mace also accused Hillary Clinton of responding to some of her “pointed” questions by “screaming.”
“She was unhinged,” Mace added. “And I hope that President Clinton is less unhinged today than his wife was yesterday.”
Mace also called for the Oversight Committee to subpoena Trump&#8217;s Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, a move that California Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna said would have the support of Democrats. Lutnick met with Epstein multiple times, including at least one time on Epstein&#8217;s infamous island. The Commerce secretary said that he did not engage in or witness any illegal activity, and Lutnick has not been accused of any wrongdoing related to Epstein&#8217;s crimes.
Asked about a potential Lutnick subpoena, Trump said the Commerce secretary is &#8220;innocent&#8221; and would &#8220;go in and say whatever he has to say.&#8221;
On Thursday evening, Hillary Clinton spoke to reporters outside the performing arts center where her deposition took place in Chappaqua, New York, and blasted Republicans for asking &#8220;very repetitive&#8221; questions after she stated that she never met Epstein. Hillary Clinton also suggested that her husband will focus on the &#8220;chronology&#8221; of his relationship with Epstein and argue that he only spent time with the financier before Epstein was charged and pleaded guilty to soliciting a child for prostitution.
&#8220;I think it is fair to say that the vast majority of people who had contact with [Epstein] before his criminal pleas in &#8217;08 were like most people, they did not know what he was doing,&#8221; Hillary Clinton said. &#8220;And I think that is exactly what my husband will testify to tomorrow.&#8221;
The former president will likely have much more to address during his deposition than his wife, as Bill Clinton traveled numerous times on Epstein&#8217;s private plane. He also appears in multiple instances in the Epstein files recently released by the Justice Department, including in photos that show the former president schmoozing with Epstein and Maxwell, as well as multiple photos that show Bill Clinton in a swimming pool with Maxwell and enjoying a hot tub with a woman whose face was redacted.
The former president was also seen in a picture getting a back massage from Chauntae Davies, one of Epstein’s accusers. Davies has not accused Clinton of acting inappropriately.

Comer said on Friday before the deposition that House Republicans plan to ask Bill Clinton about the photos as well as his trips on Epstein’s private jet.
House Democrats also made a few comments before heading into the building for former President Clinton’s deposition. Rep. Robert Garcia of California said that Democrats want “serious answers” from Bill Clinton. Garcia then blasted his Republican colleagues, who Hillary Clinton accused of asking irrelevant questions, including inquiries about UFOs, during Thursday’s deposition.
“What we don’t want is a side show and questions about UFOs, or about conspiracy theories from decades ago, which is what unfortunately happened yesterday,” Garcia said. “A series of bizarre questions were asked of Secretary Clinton.”
The Democrats also repeated their demand from Thursday and urged Republicans to subpoena President Donald Trump. Garcia said that Republicans have “set a new precedent” by asking a former president to testify over his relationship with Epstein.
Neither Bill nor Hillary Clinton has been accused of any wrongdoing related to Epstein&#8217;s sex crimes, and the former president and first lady have stated that they never visited Epstein&#8217;s private island. After photos of Bill Clinton were released among the millions of Epstein-related documents and files by the Justice Department, the former president&#8217;s chief of staff, Angel Ureña, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bill-clinton-responds-to-shocking-photos-in-epstein-file-dump">accused</a> the Trump administration of scapegoating Bill Clinton.
“The White House hasn’t been hiding these files for months only to dump them late on a Friday to protect Bill Clinton,” Ureña said. “This is about shielding themselves from what comes next, or from what they’ll try and hide forever. So they can release as many grainy, 20-plus-year-old photos as they want, but this isn’t about Bill Clinton. Never has, never will be.”
Documents released by the Justice Department also show that Maxwell had a major role in the founding of the Clinton Global Initiative, a project of the Clinton Foundation to bring world leaders together to discuss future action. While coordinating with Epstein, Maxwell took part in budget discussions when the former president was first attempting to launch the initiative in 2004, just two years before Epstein was indicted, The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2026/02/08/us/politics/epstein-clintons-maxwell.html">reported</a>.
Maxwell, a British former socialite, told the Justice Department during an interview last year that Bill Clinton was her friend, &#8220;not Epstein&#8217;s friend.&#8221;
