The release of the long-awaited 2024 election autopsy report threw Democrats into a nosedive on Thursday, with liberals questioning the veracity of the document and calling on the DNC&#8217;s top official to resign.  
Buried inside the report were some brutal admissions about former Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic brand, and the party’s growing disconnect from average Americans. &#8220;We either adapt to the changing conditions of the arena, or history will leave us behind,” the report stated. 
Notably, the autopsy made no mention of former President Joe Biden&#8217;s advanced age or the lingering distrust voters felt following his disastrous debate performance. Plus, the document repeatedly undercuts itself in real time with editor notes and annotations like “No evidence provided,” “Analysis not supported,” and “Contradicts public reporting.”
“An autopsy is a medical procedure you do over a corpse, and now it sounds like we need a malpractice attorney because we couldn’t even do the autopsy correctly,&#8221; Congressman Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) <a href="https://x.com/RNCResearch/status/2057500316220731673?s=20">said on CNN</a>. &#8220;We lost the last election, it wasn’t close, ok? But the fact that we can’t even tell people why, we’re too afraid to tell them the truth…they saw that we got killed in the election, we lost every swing state.&#8221;

The document repeatedly suggests Democrats leaned way too heavily on “Trump bad” messaging while failing to give voters a compelling reason to vote for Harris. 
“The national campaign did not effectively drive Trump’s negatives, and the White House did not effectively support Vice President Harris over three and [a] half years to improve her standing before the candidate switch,” the report said. “The idea Trump’s negatives were ‘baked in’ is a major failure of analysis and reality …” 
For months, Ken Martin, the Democratic National Committee chairman, resisted releasing the nearly 200-page report but <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/dnc-chair-pressed-on-why-party-is-hiding-2024-election-autopsy?author=Jacob+Wheeler&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=68&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=DNC+Chair+Pressed+On+Why+Party+Is+Hiding+2024+Election+Autopsy">relented under immense pressure</a> — with deep reservations. 
&#8220;When I received the report late last year, it wasn&#8217;t ready for primetime — not even close — and because no source material was provided, it would have meant starting over. I could not in good faith put the DNC&#8217;s stamp of approval on the report that was produced,&#8221; Martin said. &#8220;After last November&#8217;s massive Democratic wins, I didn&#8217;t want to create a distraction, but by not putting the report out, I ended up creating an even bigger distraction.&#8221; 
Tommy Vietor, the liberal cohost of &#8220;Pod Save America,&#8221; said Martin&#8217;s handling of the ordeal &#8220;raises more questions about his judgment, candor, and ability to lead the DNC.&#8221; 
&#8220;Ken Martin should resign,&#8221; David Hogg, who unsuccessfully ran for DNC Vice Chair, said on X.

Republicans, on the other hand, offered a more succinct explanation for the Democrats&#8217; 2024 election wipeout.

Democrats finally released their long-awaited 2024 election autopsy — and it reads less like a postmortem on President Donald Trump and more like a realization that voters may simply not like them anymore.
Buried inside the 192-page report are some brutal admissions about former Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic brand, and the party’s growing disconnect from average Americans.
&#8220;The sad truth is Democrats have lost ground at every level from inconsistent messaging and improper planning, even as the policies the Party advances continue to earn voter support at the ballot box,&#8221; <a href="https://democrats.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/May-20-2026.pdf">the report said</a>.
The document repeatedly suggests Democrats leaned way too heavily on “Trump bad” messaging while failing to give voters a compelling reason to vote for Harris. One especially rough section says Harris struggled to define herself beyond “not Trump” and “prosecutor vs. felon,&#8221; putting blame on the Biden White House.
&#8220;The national campaign did not effectively drive Trump’s negatives, and the White House did not effectively support Vice President Harris over three and [a] half years to improve her standing before the candidate switch,&#8221; the report said. &#8220;The idea Trump’s negatives were &#8216;baked in&#8217; is a major failure of analysis and reality&#8230;&#8221; 
The autopsy also openly acknowledges that Harris had a significant issue with male voters.
One section, titled “The Male Voter Problem,” points out that down-ballot Democrats consistently outperformed Harris with men. North Carolina Democrat Josh Stein, for example, won 51% of male voters while Harris managed just 40%.
And it gets worse.
The autopsy admits Harris struggled badly with young men, Latino men, irregular voters, rural voters, and working-class Americans. At one point, the report flatly says Democrats suffered from a “persistent inability or unwillingness to listen to all voters.” Another section warns that millions of Americans “do not see themselves reflected in the America of the Democratic Party.”
There are also some surprisingly direct shots at identity politics.
One passage praises candidates who focused “less on abstract issues and identity politics” and more on public safety, affordability, housing, and the economy.
The report found that the Trump attack ads were highly effective, particularly the “Kamala is for they/them” spot, with Democratic pollsters noting the campaign was effectively boxed in by footage of her own remarks showing Harris out of touch with voters focused on their pocketbooks.

DNC Chair Ken Martin defended releasing the report after delaying it for months, telling CNN: “After last November’s massive Democratic wins, I didn’t want to create a distraction, but by not putting the report out, I ended up creating an even bigger distraction.”
With nationwide redistricting underway, the report fired bleak warning shots for Democrats as more Americans continue fleeing blue states and voting with their feet.
&#8220;The future could become even more difficult. Demographic and population projections indicate an accelerating population shift away from traditionally Democratic states,&#8221; the report found. 
&#8220;With radical midterm redistricting efforts underway, the writing is on the wall, and the call is coming from inside the House. We either adapt to the changing conditions of the arena, or history will leave us behind.&#8221;

A leftist podcaster grilled Democratic National Committee Chairman Ken Martin on Tuesday over his refusal to release the highly anticipated post-election autopsy examining how Democrats lost the 2024 presidential race.
The DNC had initially signaled the autopsy would be made public, but in December 2025, the party announced it would not release the report despite Chairman Martin <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2025/02/01/ken-martin-elected-dnc-party-chair-00201938" target="_blank" rel="noopener">publicly pledging to do so.</a> The reversal ignited a firestorm among some Democrats eager to understand why more than $1 billion in fundraising failed to deliver the White House to Kamala Harris.
The review of the party’s 2024 wipeout is said to have centered around hundreds of interviews with operatives across all 50 states, raising concerns within the Democratic Party about airing internal divisions, <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2025/12/18/dnc-kills-its-own-public-2024-autopsy-00697403">according to Politico. </a>
For Jon Favreau, former Obama speechwriter and co-host of Pod Save America, the public explanation isn&#8217;t cutting it.
“Why did you change your mind on that?” he asked Martin, point-blank.
Martin defended the decision, arguing the party is focused on applying lessons rather than relitigating the past.
&#8220;What I said all along, even when I ran for this position, is that we were going to focus on the things that will help us win the upcoming election, right, making sure that we learn the right lessons that could help inform our victories,&#8221; Martin said. &#8220;It&#8217;s not completely accurate to say that we didn&#8217;t release that. Where we&#8217;re keeping our focus is on the lessons that can actually help us win.&#8221;

When pressed again, Martin insisted the report contains no single explanation for the loss.
&#8220;There&#8217;s no smoking gun in the report. And I know that&#8217;s what everyone&#8217;s so eager to learn this smoking gun,&#8221; Martin said.
Favreau pushed back: &#8220;But if there&#8217;s no smoking gun, why wouldn&#8217;t you just release it then?&#8221;
&#8220;Because we want to keep the focus on the lessons,&#8221; an irritated Martin said. &#8220;Because what ends up happening here is that people, of course, want to weaponize the report in a way, to look backwards, to point fingers, place blame, in a way that actually doesn&#8217;t keep us focused on the upcoming election.&#8221;
“Guess what, John? In the third-closest presidential election in the last 100 years, everything mattered. There’s nothing that didn’t impact that election,” he added.
The contentious exchange comes as pressure mounts within the party to release at least part of the report. At a DNC meeting last week in New Orleans, attendees stood up and screamed at Martin, according to Axios, and leftist groups have deployed mobile billboards reading, &#8220;RELEASE THE AUTOPSY.&#8221;
Leaked details of the report are said to have highlighted the party&#8217;s staggering losses with young voters, a defensive message on immigration, and outdated data infrastructure, according to Politico.
“Democrats are allergic to accountability,” Briahna Joy Gray, former national secretary for the 2020 Bernie Sanders campaign, posted on X.
