On Monday night, the comedienne with a knack for crying hysterics over street swastikas that look like construction markings to the untamed eye, Sarah Silverman, decided to publish her inner monologue on Twitter, or as some might call it, The Sad Rantings of a Cold, Bitter Woman.
And by “some,” I mean me.
Totally Empowered Silverman explained that she “sacrificed” having children so she could live what she deems her “fullest life.” This is the standard feminist platform: “I don’t need a man to be happy.” Then, as she continues her sad inner thoughts, Silverman bashes men, whom she woefully stereotypes, to make herself feel better about her apparently unsatisfying “fullest life.”
“As a comic always working & on the road I have had to decide between motherhood & living my fullest life & I chose the latter,” wrote Silverman. This is the faux Girl Power! stage.
Then it’s exposed that bitter Silverman is perhaps not as fulfilled with her “fullest life” as feminists often claim one will be if you just “resist” The Patriarchy. The comedian, clearly lamenting her empowering choice not to have children, attacks men, whom she stereotypes as hands-off fathers who never have to sacrifice at the expense of their children. (Silverman has obviously never considered the most extreme example of men sacrificing for their children, and others’ children: the brave men packing the United States Military.)
“Men don’t have to do that. I’d so love to be a fun dad, coming home from the road & being my best fun dad self,” she wrote, adding, “So this is just a lil f*** all y’all bc u can’t be a woman w/out sacrifice & that’s the fact jack.”
Silverman perfectly embodies the cold, unproductive, man-bashing world of modern feminism in three easy steps.
Step One: Choose the Feminist Path to happiness, one free from The Patriarchy, a husband and children so you can have your dream career and live your “fullest life.”
Step Two: Stereotype and complain about men and basic biology to justify a choice you clearly regret.
Step Three: Use curse words to slam home your point because logic failed to. This is how people know you’re serious.
It is possible that if you regret your choice to forgo a family for your own career, that’s your fault and not the fault of men? Is it possible for feminists to restrain from bashing men—like ever? Is it possible that most women, even successful career women, are fulfilled by their children and marital relationships—and we acknowledge that this is not a bad thing? And lastly, is it possible for feminists to stop complaining about biology, that nothing, not even transgender laws, can change?
