VERY FAKE NEWS: NYT Says 521 Mass Shootings In Past 477 Days!

   DailyWire.com

America has seen 521 “mass shootings” in the past 477 days, according to data published by The New York Times (NYT) via the Gun Violence Archive (GVA), a left-wing Washington, D.C.-based organization.

The GVA provides its definition of “mass shooting”: FOUR or more shot and/or killed in a single event [incident], at the same general time and location not including the shooter.

Its database of “mass shootings” includes crimes related to gangs, robberies, and domestic abuse, as long as they have four victims.

The NYT’s editorial board published a graphic depicting dates of the shootings, under the headline: “477 Days. 521 Mass Shootings. Zero Action From Congress.”

At the time of the article’s publication in the NYT, 477 days had passed since the Islamic terrorist attack at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, FL. The NYT neglects to characterize the motivations of the Orlando murderer, categorizing the attack as an unqualified “mass shooting.”

The NYT’s “gun violence” section includes headlines such as “A Drumbeat of Multiple Shootings, but America Isn’t Listening” and “The N.R.A.’s Complicity in Terrorism.”

Mother Jones, an admittedly progressive publication, defines “mass shooting” differently.

Dating back to at least 2005, the FBI and leading criminologists essentially defined a mass shooting as a single attack in a public place in which four or more victims were killed. Mother Jones adopted that baseline when it gathered data in 2012 on three decades worth of cases.

With its definition, Mother Jones identified 62 mass shootings in America between 1982 and 2012.

Following the Islamic terrorist attack of December 2, 2015 in San Bernardino, CA, left-wing and Democrat-aligned news media outlets hyped “mass shootings” to obfuscate the political, religious, and cultural dimensions of the murderers.

Hours after the San Bernardino attack, the NYT announced that the year of 2015 saw, on average, more than one mass shooting per day:

More than one a day.

That is how often, on average, shootings that left four or more people wounded or dead occurred in the United States this year, according to compilations of episodes derived from news reports.
