CBS says that it has terminated an executive in its legal department after discovering that she’d posted heartless Facebook comments about the victims of Monday’s massacre in Las Vegas.
Hayley Geftman-Gold, a Vice President and Senior Counsel at the network, posted on social media that she was “not even sympathetic” to shooting victims, because “country music fans often are Republican gun toters.”
“If they wouldn’t do anything when children were murdered I have no hope that Repugs will ever do the right thing. I’m actually not even sympathetic bc country music fans often are Republican gun toters,” Geftman-Gold commented on a friend’s status about Sunday night’s tragedy, referring, it seems, to Congressional lack of action in the wake of Sandy Hook.
CBS issued a statement to the media almost immediately after Geftman-Gold’s comments began appearing on news websites, calling the executive’s comments “deeply unacceptable,” and noting that Geftman-Gold has already been terminated.
This individual, who was with us for approximately one year, violated the standards of our company and is no longer an employee of CBS. Her views as expressed on social media are deeply unacceptable to all of us at CBS. Our hearts go out to the victims in Las Vegas and their families.
Fifty-eight people died and more than 500 were injured when a gunman, Stephen Paddock, opened fire on a country music festival from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino. Authorities have yet to uncover a motive for the killing, which is likely the largest single mass shooting in American history.
