On Wednesday night, a member of a group called “Draw The Blue Line,” which has protested President Trump’s decision to pull out of the Paris Accord, decided to express her feelings by dumping blue paint over the iconic Wall Street bull statue.
The NYPD told CNBC that not only had the paint been poured over the bull, but a sash stating “Draw The Blue Line” was placed around the “Fearless Girl” statue that stands opposite the bull.
The vandal, Courtney Frances Fallon, emailed CNBC she was “trying to cover New York City (and the world) with horizontal blue lines to represent rising sea levels for the UN General Assembly. My hope is that the blue will become so ubiquitous that UN members and delegates will see it and reply by publicly reaffirming their commitment to the Paris Agreement.”
The UN General Assembly is meeting between September 12-25.
Draw The Blue Line states that the group’s goal is “to communicate to attendees of the United Nations General Assembly that the public supports the Paris Agreement. Hopefully, they will hear this message and reassert their country’s commitment to the fight against climate change. This visual conversation will be a tangible demonstration of solidarity against climate change denial.” The group’s website states, “…Draw The Blue Line is asking New York City and the rest of the world to put horizontal blue lines across buildings (facades and interiors), trees, fences, windows, on social media, everywhere during the 2017 UN General Assembly (September 12-25, 2017) to show support for the Paris Agreement.”
