Being a Chicago Bears fan used to be pretty straightforward.
You watched a Bad Quarterback play, complained about that Bad Quarterback, but also half-heartedly convinced yourself that said Bad Quarterback might, one day, become a Good Quarterback.
Hell, many Bears fans grew up believing that Jay Cutler was as good as it gets.
Caleb Williams has redefined what it means to watch the Chicago Bears.
After a Year 1 disaster, Caleb engineered five fourth-quarter comebacks and game-winning drives in Year 2. He beat Green Bay in stunning fashion in the playoffs.
I repeat: A Bears quarterback BEAT GREEN BAY in the playoffs.
Bears fans’ long-awaited dreams of landing a franchise quarterback had been granted. Sure, he enjoys the finer things in life, like painted nails, Drake albums, and a pink bedazzled phone case, but none of that matters.
He’s a star quarterback.
On the Chicago Bears.
And he’s ice cold.

This sentiment was stamped official in Week 1, when Caleb and the Bears went nuclear for 59 points on the road against the Carolina Panthers. It was a Week 1 franchise record for points scored and tied for the second-most points by any team in a season opener ever.
Williams accounted for 334 total yards and four touchdowns, and Bears fans started Googling mid-February plane tickets to Los Angeles.
Which made what happened on Sunday even more absurd.
Through three-and-a-half quarters, Brian Flores’ Vikings defense held Williams to 138 yards and an interception. The Vikings were up 6-3. Vibes in Chicago were rough.
Then the Bears went marching in. After leading a 62-yard drive, Caleb scrambled out left on first-and-goal. It looked like he might score, and the Bears would escape with a win.

Williams stumbled and went down untouched. Everyone watching had the same thought: Achilles.
Season over. But more importantly, would he ever get back to full health and be the same exciting player that we’ve come to expect?
Williams was carted off in obvious pain. He wiped away tears, covered his face, then thanked the crowd and tried to pump them up.
It looked like the absolute worst-case scenario.
But if I’ve learned anything about the Caleb Williams Experience, it’s that we all know nothing. The proverbial rabbit is coming out of his hat.
When Williams was spotted walking out of the locker room, a smidgeon of hope was restored. If Tyson Bagent could tread water for 4-6 weeks, maybe Williams would be back, and the team’s playoff hopes would survive.

Turns out the latest Williams plot twist is much wilder than that.
The Ringer’s Tom Pelissero reported Monday that tests confirmed Williams avoided a major hamstring injury. Chicago head coach Ben Johnson told reporters, “It sounds like it’s going to be a week-to-week deal for him… But he will likely miss some time.”
Still, Williams is not currently ruled out for Monday Night Football against the Eagles in Week 3.
To say that the folks on social media have thoughts would be putting it lightly.

So yes, did Williams roll around like he’d been shot and cry his eyes out over a week-to-week injury? He sure did.
Is it all part of the Caleb Williams Experience? It sure is.
Williams is a Drama King. From 59 points to three points to a season-ending injury and back to Super Bowl dreams, Bears fans are riding the emotional rollercoaster. At least they have hope that the soap opera will continue.
