After President Trump held his press conference on Tuesday, Politico offered a transcript of his remarks containing an egregious error that falsely painted Trump as claiming he was a member of the alt-right movement.
Politico quoted Trump as saying, “Okay, what about the alt-left that came charging at us — excuse me — what about the alt-left that came charging at the, as you say, the alt right?” Politico later changed the “us” to (indiscernible).
But other outlets, even CNN, which holds no brief for Trump, listened more carefully, reporting Trump said, “charging at them.”
Politico was corrected by other journalists on Twitter:
What is truly amusing about this affair is that in late June, Politico ran a piece decrying the refusal of news organizations to admit their left-wing biases, naming, among others, The New York Times, The Washington Post, the network evening newscasts, and CNN.
Fair enough. But strangely, the piece never bothered to state that Politico was guilty of the same bias.
