Tensions rose on ABC’s “The View” when co-hosts Sunny Hostin and Alyssa Farah Griffin clashed over what they believe might happen to former President Donald Trump in the wake of his Tuesday indictment.
The two butted heads during Wednesday’s broadcast when Griffin suggested that the case brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg — which included 34 felony counts — would not be successful in “taking Trump down.”

“Two things can be true at once. Yesterday was a bad day for Donald Trump, the first indicted former president,” Griffin began. “I want to see this guy held accountable. This case is not taking Donald Trump down, and I say that for a couple of reasons …”
“How do you know that?” Hostin objected, interrupting.
Griffin noted that there was no conspiracy charge — which she said many people had been waiting to see — and Hostin brushed that off, saying that conspiracy would have been much harder to prove.
Griffin went on to point out that four years was the maximum sentence carried by each charge against Trump, saying that it was far more likely he’d be slapped with a fine and probation given that it was a first offense and a non-violent crime.
“Every legal expert I’ve talked to said most likely a fine and probation if he’s even convicted,” she said, and Hostin interrupted again.
“I’ll tell you why you’re wrong as this legal expert. That is wrong! I will tell you why you’re wrong,” she insisted.

“He’s not going to jail over this,” Griffin stood her ground.
“Prosecutors are not only in the business of prosecuting crimes. They’re in the business of sending out a message,” Hostin declared, adding, “If you let the President of the United States be found guilty of 1-34 counts, even if they’re misdemeanors, and he gets to go home scot-free? You’re sending a message to the country that it’s okay, and that’s not going to happen.”
“It’s not scot-free,” Griffin pushed back. “We’re just saying it’s going to be a fine and probation.”
“It won’t be serving time necessarily,” co-host Sara Haines added as they all began talking over each other.
