As one of the bonuses of the massive gay Pride parade in Los Angeles on Sunday, which was branded the ResistMarch, Donald Trump’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was vandalized yet again, this time with scores of stickers advertising the marchers’ belief that Trump is out to get them.
The stickers had messages such as “Dissent. Don’t Relent,” and numerous messages starting with the word “Resist,” including “Resist Transphobia,” “Resist Misogyny,” “Resist Homophobia,” “Resist Racism,” “Resist Corruption,” “Resist Extremism,” “Resist Xenophobia,” “Resist Ageism,” and “Resist Ableism.”
This is not the first time Trump’s star has been vandalized: In January 2016, Trump’s star was defaced with a reverse swastika; in June 2016, a mute sign was painted on the star; in July, an L.A. street artist calling himself Plastic Jesus, mocked Trump’s rhetoric of building a wall between the U.S. and Mexico by circumscribing the star with a tiny wall topped by tiny razor wire.
Last October, a man named Jamie Otis, dressed as a construction worker, did this with a pickaxe and sledgehammer.
Otis told Deadline he initially wanted to remove the star, auction it off, and donate the proceedings to women who had accused Trump of sexually assaulting them.
Since Trump was the first president to use the words “LGBTQ community” in his nomination acceptance speech, gay pride activists have focused on Trump’s cohorts’ positions on gay rights as a motive for their protests of Trump. Some of the people they cite include Vice President Mike Pence, Attorney General Sessions, and HHS Secretary Tom Price.
