On Wednesday, potential Illinois gubernatorial candidate and Democratic megadonor J.B. Pritzker urged biological males to use women and girls’ bathrooms and vice versa as a way to “protest” the Trump Administration’s decision to “rescind” former President Obama’s overreaching transgender bathroom edict enacted on public schools in April.
“As a protest against Trump’s rescinding protections for trans kids, everyone should use the other gender’s bathroom today!” tweeted Pritzker.
The Obama transgender directive mandated all public schools to determine bathroom and locker-room use based on one’s “gender identity,” as opposed to biology. Threats of revoked federal funding and lawsuits were attached for states which chose not to comply. Now that Trump has acted, states will be able to set their own laws and guidelines concerning the issue.
You know, that silly thing called states’ rights.
The billionaire’s ill-advised tweet was met with an onslaught of criticism, from both sides of the aisle.
Nearly four hours later, the Hillary Clinton donor clarified his suggestion, explaining that it wasn’t meant to be taken literally.
As noted by The Washington Free Beacon, “Pritzker has been called ‘the other mayor of Chicago’ for his political influence and massive campaign spending on behalf of Democratic candidates such as Chicago Mayor Rahm Emmanuel. He has close ties to the Clintons, having served as the national co-chair of Hillary Clinton’s failed 2008 presidential bid, as well as the Obama administration. His sister, Penny Pritzker, served as Secretary of Commerce under President Obama from 2013 until he left office. J.B. Pritzker and his wife were two of the largest individual spenders in the 2016 election, shelling out more than $21 million to elect Clinton and other Democrats, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.”
