As The Force Awakens continues to add to its record-smashing box office gains, Disney-owned Lucasfilm just released the new teaser trailer (above) for the first in a series of Star Wars spin-offs: ROGUE ONE: A Star Wars Story.

The film, which will hit theaters Dec 16 of this year, is the first in what is expected to be a number of stand-alone Star Wars films.

It's directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) and, like The Force Awakens, has a female lead, Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso. A couple of other notable names in the cast include Forest Whitaker and Mads Mikkelsen.

The Force Awakens has crossed the $2 billion mark worldwide and has earned over $935 million domestically, crushing the previous record held by Avatar ($760 million). The film's $2.06 billion puts it third all-time worldwide behind Avatar ($2.788 billion) and Titanic ($2.187 billion).

As compelling as the new spin-off's trailer looks, nothing touches the magic of when we first heard "Chewie, we're home"...
