Joining Chris Matthews for a campaign infomercial masquerading as a good faith political interview, Hillary Clinton opted against explaining the non-existent difference between the the ideology of the contemporary Democratic Party and conventional socialism.
“What’s the difference between a socialist and a Democrat?” asked Matthews, to an immediately flustering Clinton.
Concerned that he had asked a politically inconvenient question, Matthews preemptively offered Clinton a get-out-of-answering-the-question-free-card.
“Is that a question you wanna answer, or would you rather not? It’s up to you,” said Matthews.
“I’m not one,” replied Clinton, “I can tell you what I am. I am a progressive Democrat who likes to get things done.”
No explanation was offered by either Matthews or Clinton as the nature of socialistic ideology. Also ignored was any discussion of the values of free markets and human freedom in the vein of the classical liberalism through which America’s founders composed its foundational documents.
DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz experienced similar frustrations when asked to delineate between a socialist and a Democrat.
Matthews proudly shared some photos of MSNBC's donation of time to Clinton's campaign.
