A Palestinian-Arab terrorist murdered a young woman in Jerusalem today near IDF Square by the Old City. The terrorist originated from Eastern Jerusalem and used a kitchen knife to stab this woman to death while wounding countless others. The victim was on a student visa and originated from the United Kingdom. A pregnant woman was also hospitalized after being injured from the light rail suddenly halting and a 50-year-old man injured his leg attempting to flee the scene.
The Shin Bet, Israel's internal security service, identified the culprit as 57-year-old Jamil Tamimi. He had been arrested by the Shin Bet before. Back in 2011, he was found guilty of sexually abusing his daughter; earlier this year, he attempted to commit suicide by swallowing a razor blade while under Shin Bet detention. The Shin Bet said the following in a statement after the terrorist attack occurred:
This is another case, out of many, where a Palestinian who is suffering from personal, mental or moral issues chooses to carry out a terror attack in order to find a way out of their problems.
Israeli security forces have been on high alert over the past week due to its religious significance for both Jews and Christians, who are observing Passover and Palm Sunday; Good Friday; the Festival of Holy Fire; and Easter respectively. Border Police closed the Damascus Gate, which leads to the Muslim Quarter of the Old City, in response to this terrorist attack.
