FLASHBACK: 30 Senate Democrats Met With Russian AND Chinese Diplomats About The Iran Deal In 2015
The Democrats are screaming about Attorney General Jeff Sessions having meetings with the Russian ambassador, yet they seem to have forgotten that 30 Senate Democrats met with diplomats from both Russia and China about the Iran deal.
The Federalist's Sean Davis pointed out the Democrats' hypocrisy on Twitter:
The article, published in 2015, noted that the Russian and Chinese diplomats, as well as officials from countries like Britain and Germany, were meeting with these Democrats to ease their concerns about the Iran deal. Later on in the piece, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) is cited as having been swayed to support the Iran deal as a result of the meeting.
"When I questioned the ambassadors of our P5+1 allies, it also became clear that if we reject this deal, going back to the negotiation table is not an option," Gillibrand said.
The article also pointed out that "Sens. Al Franken and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, Michael Bennet of Colorado, Chris Coons of Delaware, Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin" were among the 30 Democratic Senators in that meeting.
Of course, the Iran deal did in fact get passed and Iran is well on its way to developing nuclear weapons. This reported meeting from August that included Russian and Chinese diplomats may have been involved with that.
Davis continued to expose the Democrats' hypocrisy on Twitter:
McCaskill announced her support for the Iran deal days after Senate Democrats secretly met w/ Russian officials. https://t.co/D8v7gsTVUm— Sean Davis (@seanmdav) March 2, 2017
It's long past time for a full federal investigation of Russian attempts to influence U.S. policymakers on the disastrous Iran nuclear deal.— Sean Davis (@seanmdav) March 2, 2017
If you want to see what actual nefarious foreign influence over the operations of U.S. government looks like, take a look at the Iran deal.— Sean Davis (@seanmdav) March 2, 2017
If the Democrats had any sort of intellectual honesty, they would echo Davis's tweets and call for the Senate Democrats to reveal what exactly happened at the reported meeting about the Iran deal, but they likely won't since it wouldn't advance their agenda to take down President Donald Trump.
