Democratic socialist Melat Kiros upset incumbent Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO) in the primary for Colorado&#8217;s 1st congressional district on Tuesday night as the far-Left continues its hot streak in Democratic contests.
With 93% of the vote counted as of Wednesday morning, Kiros <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2026-primary-elections/colorado-us-house-district-1-results">holds</a> 51.3% to DeGette&#8217;s 41.7%, with Wanda James, another candidate in the race, taking 7%.
DeGette, who has held the House seat for as long as 29-year-old Kiros has been alive, will likely be replaced by Kiros after the general election. Kiros will be heavily favored over Republican nominee Christy Peterson in the general election in a district that last elected a Republican in 1970.
Kiros, endorsed by democratic socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), <a href="https://www.kirosforco.com/priorities-2#">wants</a> to increase publicly owned housing, make college tuition free, hike the corporate tax rate from 21% to 50%, end at-will employment, create an AI moratorium, abolish ICE, allow gender-affirming care for all ages, and invest in &#8220;community-based&#8221; emergency response teams over police.
Kiros, who was born in Ethiopia and immigrated to the United States with her parents when she was an infant, also <a href="https://x.com/EYakoby/status/2072145312743915590">proposed</a> giving immediate citizenship to all illegal immigrants in the United States.
&#8220;Abolishing ICE is just one step &#8230; I think there has to be an immediate pathway for every single undocumented immigrant that&#8217;s here in this country today that doesn&#8217;t require them to shell out thousands of dollars to go through the process,&#8221; she said.
The leftist Democrat has also faced criticism over recent <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/october-7-comments-put-dsa-backed-candidate-under-scrutiny?author=Leona+Salinas&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=1&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=October+7+Comments+Put+DSA-Backed+Candidate+Under+Scrutiny">comments</a> she made on the 9/11 and October 7, 2023, terrorist attacks, arguing that 9/11 was the result of American foreign policy and October 7 was “the inevitable consequence of apartheid.”
Kiros has spent the majority of the last decade in school, obtaining an economics and political science degree from Washington College, a law degree from Notre Dame, and is currently pursuing her PhD in public affairs at the University of Colorado. She currently works as a barista while running for Congress. 
She was an attorney for about 15 months before she was fired after criticizing her own law firm and other firms for signing a <a href="https://aboutblaw.com/bbju">statement</a> that pushed for deans to address antisemitic language and protests on college campuses after Hamas&#8217; October 7 attack on Israel. In her own letter in November 2023, Kiros <a href="https://medium.com/@melatakiros/dear-us-law-firms-77ec63e838af">claimed</a> she was confused why calls for the elimination of the Israeli state were seen as antisemitic. 
Kiros is the latest democratic socialist to cruise to a primary victory after three radical leftists won their primaries in New York last week. Some sitting Democrats are embracing the radical newcomers.

Kiros told SiriusXM radio, &#8220;People are seeing that capitalism is responsible for a lot of the degradation that we&#8217;re seeing in our economy, in our democracy, in our climate.&#8221; She attributes socialism&#8217;s rise to people &#8220;demanding a new way to organize our economy, our government and making sure that&#8217;s all centered on working families and protecting basic needs.&#8221;

A JetBlue plane collided with a drone while landing at John F. Kennedy Airport on Monday morning. 
The pilot told air traffic control, “We are cleared to land 13L. Just quickly, I couldn’t talk to approach, but we collided with a drone back there in the turn.” 
“You said you collided?” confirmed Air Traffic Control.

A JetBlue spokesperson said that the plane landed “without incident,” and that customers “deplaned normally, and the plane was removed from service for a post-flight inspection.” The inspection revealed no damage to the aircraft, per the <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/06/29/us-news/jetblue-plane-hits-drone-at-3000-feet-before-touching-down-at-jfk-just-days-after-scare-at-newark/">New York Post</a>.
The FAA said it will launch an investigation. The drone collided with the aircraft at around 3,000 feet. Drones are legally permitted to fly at a maximum of 400 feet. The FAA has rules for drones avoiding airspace next to airports and will punish unauthorized drone operators with criminal charges or potential fines.

The collision occurred just days after a United Airlines aircraft had a near-miss collision with a drone at Newark Liberty International Airport. The pilot <a href="https://www.the-sun.com/news/16604129/jet-smashes-drone-landing-plane/">told</a> air traffic control, “We almost hit a drone” and that the device was “about 100 feet below us.”

Outraged over the Supreme Court’s decision to allow states to count mail-in ballots received after Election Day, Republicans are doubling down on their push to pass the SAVE America Act to “uphold election integrity.” 
Missouri Republican Senator Eric Schmitt <a href="https://x.com/SenEricSchmitt/status/2071598452698456132?s=20">called</a> the court&#8217;s decision on Monday “shockingly wrong.&#8221;
“A shockingly wrong opinion. Justice Barrett joins with the liberal justices to hold that federal election law does not preempt states who allow late mail-in ballots to be counted.” He added, “This is terrible for election integrity. Another reason we must pass the full SAVE American Act.”
The SAVE America Act would require proof of citizenship to vote and would add restrictions to mail-in ballots, including new ID requirements. In its decision on Monday, the Supreme Court ruled that federal law does not bar states from counting ballots that arrive after Election Day, so long as they are postmarked on time.
Congressman Greg Steube (R-FL) echoed Schmitt’s urgency for the Save America Act to be passed. Steube <a href="https://x.com/RepGregSteube/status/2071611241198485944">called</a> on the Senate to “nuke” the filibuster to allow the bill to be passed. “The House already passed the SAVE Act to fix this. The Senate filibuster is the only thing standing in the way. Nuke it,&#8221; he said. 
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said that while the decision is &#8220;a loss for election integrity,&#8221; his state &#8220;will continue to only count mail ballots that arrive by Election Day.&#8221;
RNC Chairman Joe Gruters added, &#8220;If we want fair and secure elections, Election Day should mean exactly what it says, which is why this decision makes it even more imperative that Congress pass the Save America Act.&#8221; Gruters argued that by allowing mail-in ballots post-election day, &#8220;Democrats are inviting chaos at the ballot box by allowing elections to drag on for days and weeks after voters cast their ballots.&#8221;
The 5-4 ruling says states can count ballots as long as they are postmarked by Election Day. Recently, the mail-in counting process led to L.A. mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt being edged out of the November runoff by City Councilmember Nithya Raman, who overtook him for second place behind incumbent Mayor Karen Bass as late-arriving mail ballots were counted.
In his <a href="https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25pdf/24-1260_g3cn.pdf">dissent</a>, conservative Justice Samuel Alito wrote, “It opens up and fails to resolve a host of questions for state election officials and courts. And it creates a serious risk of further undermining public confidence in our elections and our system of self-government.”
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) praised the court&#8217;s decision and hinted that Senate Democrats would work to stop the SAVE America Act.
“The Supreme Court just upheld this bedrock American principle: if you cast your ballot on time, your vote will count. Participation in democracy should never be limited — not by your race, where you live, or how you vote,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Senate Democrats will continue to do everything we can to protect free and fair elections, where everyone’s voice is heard.&#8221;
Schumer and other Democrats have specifically raised concerns that the SAVE America Act could restrict married women from voting if they changed their last names but have not received a new passport or driver’s license to match. 
Ken Martin, chairman of the DNC, <a href="https://x.com/kenmartin73/status/2071613468575236267">said</a> Republicans&#8217; decision to challenge Mississippi’s mail-in voting was an attempt to “rig the system.” 
“Trump and Republicans are attacking our elections and trying to rig the system in their favor because they know the American people are ready to reject their chaos and corruption this November,” he said. “The DNC is proud to have stood with the state of Mississippi to defeat the RNC’s latest attack on Americans’ voting rights.”

Rather than risk his own state&#8217;s economy by backing a California billionaire tax, Gavin Newsom tried to placate the socialists on Friday by backing a dead-end &#8220;national billionaire tax&#8221; instead. 
On Monday, Newsom told the New York Times that he was working relentlessly behind the scenes to make sure the measure was not on the ballot in November. 
“This will be defeated. There’s no question in my mind,” he <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2026/01/13/us/newsom-billionaire-tax-california.html">said</a>. “I’ll do what I have to do to protect the state.” 
By Friday, Newsom had failed to keep the measure off the ballot, leaving him to explain in a Substack post that a billionaire tax is a terrible idea for California, but a great idea for the country.

“The fight to make the wealthiest Americans pay more in taxes is not one we should be fighting state by state. You may not be able to pick up and move to Texas or Florida to shelter your income from taxation, but I promise you that billionaires can, and do. Wealth is moveable, and it shops for the state with the lowest taxes.” He <a href="https://gavinnewsom.substack.com/p/its-time-for-a-national-billionaires">added</a>, “The fight belongs at the federal level, where this broken system was created in the first place.” 
A national billionaire tax would face steep political hurdles even under a Democratic president, making Newsom&#8217;s endorsement largely symbolic given the bipartisan opposition such a measure would likely encounter. Newsom&#8217;s symbolic proposal left neither supporters nor opponents of the billionaire tax satisfied.
Leftist influencer, Matt Bernstein, <a href="https://x.com/mattxiv/status/2070638221277450302">wrote</a>, &#8220;He is kind of the politician of all time. Changes his view three times a week, transforms himself to please whoever he&#8217;s speaking to, [with] no real aspirations besides power for himself.&#8221;
Trump’s former AI Czar and California resident David Sacks <a href="https://x.com/DavidSacks/status/2070620995480899985">said</a> Newsom had yielded to the Democratic-Socialists. “Today was the day that Gavin Newsom was supposed to save the tech industry by cutting a deal to kill the Billionaire Tax Act. Instead he came out as Democratic-Socialists of America adjacent, and the Billionaire Tax Act will be on the ballot in November.” A billionaire himself, Sacks added, “See y’all in Texas!”
Analysis from Newsom’s Department of Finance found that a state billionaire tax for California could generate tens of billions of dollars for the state, but it could lead to hundreds of millions in continuing losses if billionaires flee the state. The California Billionaires Tax would be a one-time levy that would collect <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jun/25/california-billionaire-tax-explainer">5%</a> of a billionaire’s net worth. The tax would be paid in installments over the next five years at a rate of 1% per year. 
If the tax is passed in November, 90% of the newly-raised revenue would offset healthcare cuts that President Trump signed into law according to the labor group backing the tax, the Service Employees International Union-United Healthcare Workers West. The majority of revenue going to healthcare was another reason Newsom cited for voting against it. “This measure dedicates almost all of the revenue it raises to a single category of state spending,” he said. “It ignores our public schools, as the California Teachers Association has rightly pointed out, by failing to provide sustainable funding that our communities, parents and children deserve.”

New York City&#8217;s Democratic socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani pushed ahead with his promised rent freeze on Thursday — but that could just be the setup for a far more dramatic move.
Mamdani&#8217;s new rent freeze could be setting landlords up to fail — and creating a stash of new &#8220;city&#8221; properties on which to build. In May, Mamdani alluded to resurrecting the controversial Third Party Transfer (TPT) program, which would allow the city to effectively confiscate private property under certain conditions.
“For buildings that have suffered chronic neglect, we will work to transfer ownership to responsible stewards.” If apartments are seized, Mamdani said they could be transferred to community land trusts, non-profits, or “even the tenants themselves.”

Under New York City’s controversial TPT program, the city can foreclose on buildings whose owners owe back property taxes, water charges, or have violated New York City’s housing code. 
The TPT program was paused in 2019 after backlash from property-rights advocates and elected officials, but the New York City Council is currently considering legislation that could <a href="https://www.thecity.nyc/2026/03/09/third-party-transfer-reform-city-council-landlords-property/">restart</a> the program. In addition to rent freezes, Mamdani promised to &#8220;crack down&#8221; on landlords who were not managing maintenance requests or had other tenant complaints.
“Expense items are not proportional to the income the properties generate,” landlord Lav Bauta told the New York Post. Bauta&#8217;s firm, Zion Equities, owns about 800 New York City rent-stabilized units and manages 4,000 apartments. “Rent-stabilized properties incur the same, or greater, expenses as their fair-market counterparts: insurance, wages, supplies, elevator service, utilities, etc. There is no support or control mechanism to cap expenses while incomes have been capped.”
Former Mayor Eric Adams <a href="https://www.nyc.gov/mayors-office/news/2025/06/mayor-adams-on-rent-guidelines-board-final-vote">acknowledged</a> these concerns during his tenure. “What we will never do is sell New Yorkers on an idea that would ultimately leave them in worsening housing conditions,” Adams said as mayor. “Rent may be on the rise, but so are deteriorating housing conditions — including inadequate heat and heating breakdowns, mice and rat problems, mold, and leaks — especially for New Yorkers in rent-stabilized housing.”
Worsening housing conditions are expected to emerge as landlords incur higher costs due to inflation. Mamdani&#8217;s rent freeze was voted into effect on Thursday after the Rent Guidelines Board approved rent freezes for both one and two-year apartment leases. The board approved the measure in a 7-1 vote affecting all rent-stabilized apartments. About one million apartments are affected out of New York’s <a href="https://www.nyc.gov/content/tenantprotection/pages/fast-facts-about-housing-in-nyc">2.32</a> million renter-occupied apartments.
“It may be hot outside, but the rent is freezing,” said Mayor Zohran Mamdani. “This is a historic victory for New York City tenants. I’ll continue working to deliver a more affordable city by building and preserving affordable housing, lowering building operating costs like insurance and ensuring tenants know their rights.” 
Before Mamdani’s 0% rent increase, landlords were able to raise rent by <a href="https://portal.311.nyc.gov/article/?kanumber=KA-03296">3%</a> for one-year lease renewals and <a href="https://portal.311.nyc.gov/article/?kanumber=KA-03296">4.5%</a> for two-year leases. Mamdani appointed a majority of the Rent Guidelines Board, which sets the annual rent adjustments for rent-stabilized apartments. Mamdani had previously <a href="https://time.com/7299525/zohran-mamdani-new-york-city-housing-crisis-plan/?utm_source=chatgpt.com">said</a> he would only appoint members to the board if they agreed with his “freeze the rent” vision. 
Starting October 1, landlords of rent-stabilized apartments will not be able to make that choice for themselves. The freeze is in place for two years, but in an earlier interview, Mamdani signaled he would be interested in extending the freeze. “We need to freeze rents for rent-stabilized tenants for four years,” he <a href="https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/zohran-mamdani-nyc-mayor-landlords.html">told</a> New York magazine before he became mayor.

Soon-to-be U.S. Congresswoman Darializa Avila Chevalier told Jen Psaki that her own financial struggles in New York City motivated her to run for Congress, but the Daily Wire found that Chevalier spent the last seven years as a professional student. 
When asked why voters should choose her to represent them in Congress this November, Chevalier told Jen Psaki, &#8220;I am someone who felt deeply abandoned by the establishment politics that far too often see my community as merely a statistic &#8230;  someone who had to live with the question of whether I can even afford to stay in the city I love.&#8221;

The Daily Wire reviewed Chevalier’s financial disclosures and found that the candidate, who built her platform around affordability for the working class, reported income almost entirely from taxpayer-supported institutions.

Chevalier collected $88,027.27 in 2025 and $46,747.65 in 2024. The largest source of income for Chevalier comes from the Neighborhood Defender Service of Harlem, which receives its revenue almost entirely from government grants. Last year, the organization reported $55,159,731 in revenue, with $55,159,400 coming from government contributions. That left the remaining $331 coming from private donations.

Her other sources of income came from higher education fellowships and stipends, which, like the Neighborhood Defender Service, are almost exclusively taxpayer-funded. City University of New York primarily receives its revenue from New York State, New York City taxpayers, and government grants.
If elected to Congress, Chevalier would receive a 97.73% pay increase from taxpayers when she begins to collect Congress’s standard $174,000 salary. As a congresswoman, Chevalier has declared she will promote socialist values as a proud member of the Democratic Socialists of America.
In an interview with a newspaper published in the Dominican Republic, Chevalier <a href="https://listindiario.com/la-republica/20260611/darializa-avila-chevalier-joven-dominicana-reta-adriano-espaillat_909337.html?utm">told</a> a reporter that democratic socialism seeks to &#8220;save the nation” and that the real dangers do not come from socialism but the extreme concentration of wealth in the hands of a few, as it produces &#8220;abysmal economic inequality that can destroy society.” 
In the past, Chevalier has called for “seizing the means of production,” increasing taxes on corporations, and a <a href="https://www.darializaforcongress.com/issues/economic-security-for-all">universal basic income</a> that would allow all citizens to receive a set, unconditional cash payment without work requirements attached. She also <a href="https://www.darializaforcongress.com/issues/economic-security-for-all">proposes</a> a federal job guarantee, which would ensure employment to anyone unable to find work in the private sector.

L.A.&#8217;s homelessness crisis made its way into the &#8220;Baywatch&#8221; reboot as filming featured a homeless man attempting to attack one of its lifeguards, The New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/06/24/entertainment/baywatch-scene-shows-the-scary-realities-of-visiting-venice-beach/?utm_campaign=capost&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter">reported</a>. The scene takes place on Venice Beach when a homeless man approaches Hassie Harrison’s character with a knife. Stephen Amell’s character rushes in to intervene and fights the homeless before Amell knocks him to the ground and paramedics aid the fallen attacker.

The fictitious scene is grounded in reality as L.A.&#8217;s large homeless encampments continue to plague residents, including near Venice Beach, where encampments have grown this year and attracted drug users, KTLA <a href="https://ktla.com/news/local-news/large-homeless-encampment-in-venice-continues-expanding-attracting-crime-drug-activity/">reported</a>. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass cleared out the encampments in 2023, but residents of the area claim the homeless residents stayed in the area after their tents were cleared and eventually expanded their encampment. 
Venice resident Craig Riveiro told KTLA 5, “Mothers and babies cannot walk on the sidewalks. It hurts the mom-and-pop businesses. It hurts the residents. It caused mayhem.” Other residents say the area has become a hotspot for crime, drug activity, and safety hazards. 
Bass, who declared 2026 as her goal to end street homelessness in L.A., blames government bureaucracy for the failure. 
“We haven’t ended it,” she <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/karen-bass-grilled-over-broken-homelessness-promise-blames-bureaucracy-slowed-progress">said</a> in May. “Basically when I said that, it was at the beginning of my term. I am very committed to achieving that goal. I didn’t anticipate some of the bureaucratic barriers that I would experience, but I am prepared to take those on now.” 
Bass, who advanced to the mayoral general election over outsider Spencer Pratt, also claimed people who work in the government are reluctant to end homelessness. &#8220;The city and the county never made that commitment before, and I found something that surprised me. I found a lot of people who work internally in the system who were very resistant to ending street homelessness.&#8221;
While homeless individuals represent a small percentage of the population, the R Street Institute estimates that they are responsible for about roughly <a href="https://www.rstreet.org/commentary/the-crime-and-safety-blindspot-do-homeless-populations-pose-an-increased-risk-to-public-safety/">15%</a> of violent crimes in the city. 
Earlier this month, the federal government halted all funds going to the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) after the city failed to deliver results after nearly $1 billion in the last five years. 
The Trump administration will keep the suspension in place until the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) completes its investigation into the LAHSA. “Under President Trump’s leadership, HUD will fund results, not corrupt failure or the homeless industrial complex,” <a href="https://www.hud.gov/news/hud-no-26-048">said</a> HUD Secretary Scott Turner.
“Year after year, hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars were funneled to LAHSA with little accountability. Meanwhile, homelessness skyrocketed,&#8221; Turner added. &#8220;Taxpayers will no longer bankroll an organization that puts its own self-interests ahead of the Americans it was created to serve.”

Tuesday&#8217;s primary elections indicated that the divide within the Democratic Party, between the moderate and the more socialist factions, is only growing ever deeper.
Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) responded after three far left candidates — all backed by Democratic socialist New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani — swept their individual races, making it clear that he too had chosen a side.

The three Mamdani-backed socialist candidates swept their congressional races on Tuesday, defeating two incumbent Democrats: Reps. Dan Goldman and Adriano Espaillat. Their challengers were viewed by many in the party as radical leftists. 
Democratic primary winners Darializa Avila Chevalier and Claire Valdez actually belong to the Democratic Socialist party of America. The New York Times Editorial Board <a href="https://nyeditorialboard.substack.com/p/darializa-avila-chevalier-on-housing">learned</a> Chevalier could not name an instance in which she would support a man being imprisoned for murder. Chevalier claimed that when “we put people behind bars in incredibly traumatizing conditions in a context where they cannot actually reflect on the harm that they caused.” 
Along with abolishing prisons, Chevalier has <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mamdanis-socialists-upset-incumbent-dems-in-house-primary-sweep?author=Brecca+Stoll&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=2&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Mamdani%E2%80%99s+Socialists+Upset+Incumbent+Dems+In+House+Primary+Sweep">advocated</a> for abolishing police and national borders. Notably, she has said that “all deportations” — including those of immigrants convicted for murder, rape, and assault — should be banned, as imprisoning and deporting would be seen as “double jeopardy.” Valdez, who won New York’s 7th district, supports abolishing ICE, private healthcare, and strengthening unions. 
Khanna is not alone in his support for the “new, strong, bold Democratic party.” Senator Cory Booker voiced support for the new candidates saying, “One of the things that makes the Democratic party great is it’s a big tent party, we need to stay that way.” He <a href="https://x.com/RNCResearch/status/2069771977041039637">added</a>, “The focus has got to be the November election.” 
Members of the parties’ progressive left such as Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Ro Khanna did not recognize the anniversary but celebrated Tuesday’s election.

However, other establishment Democrats did not comment on Tuesday’s election, focusing their attention on the four-year anniversary of the overturning of Roe V. Wade. Former Vice President Kamala Harris, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, and the Democrat’s page recognized the anniversary and did not make a comment on Tuesday’s election night.

Congressman Seth Moulton&#8217;s (D-MA) balancing act — between his own reputation for being a moderate democrat and pressure from the party&#8217;s new left flank — was on full display after a question about his support for Graham Platner in Maine’s Senate Race ended in a scuffle. 
After a reporter asked the Massachusetts Senate hopeful his thoughts on Platner’s race, Moulton responded, “Who are you asking this question?” The camera fell to the ground then, and Fox News’s Cameron Cawthorne claimed that Moulton had knocked it out of his hand.

Even Democrats who were quick to endorse Platner early in the election cycle have been hesitant to discuss him as report after report has added disturbing color to his checkered past. The most recent revelation came on Monday, when The Daily Wire uncovered a disturbing joke Platner <a href="http://t.co/tDJOKYM2G6">posted</a> on the internet about bestiality, necrophilia, and incest. 
That came on the heels of multiple women coming forward and claiming Platner <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2026/06/04/us/politics/platner-maine-senate-girlfriends-relationships.html">sent</a> sexually explicit messages while married. Platner’s profile on kik — dubbed a “predator’s paradise” because of the ease with which underage users are able to join the app and talk with adults — was also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/see-it-graham-platner-has-active-profile-on-predators-paradise-messaging-app">uncovered</a> by The Daily Wire. Even Platner’s “life on the sea” narrative has begun to unravel after he reported income from the business as “other <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/platners-living-sea-claim-dismantled-critics-financial-docs-paint-different-picture">$5,001</a>” on financial disclosures. 
Earlier in the month, Democratic leadership convened with Platner to discuss his race against incumbent Susan Collins (R-ME). Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) — who will face Moulton in his state&#8217;s September 1 primary — attended the meeting. Markey has served in Congress since <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/polls/massachusetts-us-senate-election-polls-2026.html">1977</a> and most recently touted his legislation that proposed a “trans bill of rights.” 
Moulton, in contrast, faced backlash from within his own party when he <a href="https://www.aei.org/op-eds/the-moulton-moment-and-the-mamdani-effect-how-the-democratic-party-is-abandoning-its-jewish-center/">said</a> he did not want his daughters “getting run over on a playing field by a male or formerly male athlete.” 
The current cycle is not Moulton&#8217;s first attempt for higher office. In 2019, Moulton launched a Presidential Campaign. “We can’t go too far left or we lose middle America,” he <a href="https://www.reuters.com/article/world/us-politics/democratic-2020-candidate-moulton-says-sanders-warren-too-liberal-to-beat-trump-idUSKCN1S309T/">said</a> at the time. Socialist candidate Darializa Avila Chevalier is likely to become Congress’ most radical member after she won the Democratic primary in New York&#8217;s 13th congressional district, which has not elected a Republican under its current redistricting lines.  
Chevalier has called to abolish police, disparaged the American flag, and refused to condemn Hamas&#8217; October 7 terrorist attack on Israel. She also does not support any form of deportation — including of illegal immigrants who are convicted of murder, rape, and battery.
“The reason I say that is because we have a criminal system. It is imperfect. But it exists,” she said. “We need to make sure it is one that isn’t also discriminatory on the basis of where people were born, right?” She went further to explain that deporting someone and having them serve time in jail is “double punishment.”

The topic came up as Chevalier was grilled about her controversial X posts. The 32-year-old Democratic nominee has also <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2026/06/01/politics/kfile-ny-13-darializa-avila-chevalier-deleted-tweets-defund-abolish-police-prisons-deportations">called</a> for abolishing the police and seizing private property. During the primary debate against incumbent Democratic Rep. Adriano Espaillat, Chevalier said she believes the best way to curb crime is through alleviating poverty via social safety net funding, affordable housing, after-school programs and addressing the opioid crisis rather than “militarized police.” Chevalier unseated Espaillat on Tuesday.
She also <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/06/16/us-news/mamdani-backed-foe-of-espaillat-apologizes-for-nasty-tweets-in-feisty-debate/">criticized</a> former Vice President Kamala Harris posting on X, “F*ck Kamala Harris.” For that she said, “I sincerely apologize. I would love to see a black woman president.” 
She told MS NOW’s Jen Psaki that the issue of affordability ultimately motivated her to run because she is “someone who has had to live with the question of whether I can afford to stay in the city I love.”
Chevalier has walked back another one of her posts that <a href="https://x.com/foxandfriends/status/2069818658910519452">read</a>, “I forgot to get napkins so I just wiped my hand on the American flag behind me.” However, in an interview on Tuesday, she abruptly left in the middle of questions into her past statements, <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/06/16/us-news/mamdani-backed-foe-of-espaillat-apologizes-for-nasty-tweets-in-feisty-debate/">saying</a> she felt regret for some of her past posts, but added that it was time to “fight for the things that are necessary for the community.”

All three socialist candidates backed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani won their Democratic primaries for U.S. House in New York on Tuesday night, including two far-Left candidates who knocked out incumbent Democrats. 
In New York&#8217;s 10th congressional district, former New York City comptroller Brad Lander handily defeated his opponent, incumbent Rep. Dan Goldman, receiving approximately <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2026-primary-elections/new-york-us-house-district-10-results">66%</a> of the vote. In New York’s 7th district, New York State Assemblymember Claire Valdez won her race with about <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2026-primary-elections/new-york-us-house-district-7-results">56%</a> of the vote, and in the 13th district, leftist community organizer Darializa Avila Chevalier <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2026-primary-elections/new-york-us-house-district-13-results">defeated</a> incumbent Rep. Adriano Espaillat by less than four percentage points, according to the results as of Wednesday morning. 
The results highlight the growing popularity of democratic socialist candidates in New York, sparked by Mamdani&#8217;s victory last November. 
“When Zohran won, it was a sign of what could happen and what was possible,&#8221; the Sunrise Movement, a Left-wing activist group, said in response to Tuesday night&#8217;s results. &#8220;Young people have taken over New York City and we are going to Congress. Young people, who are unapologetically Democratic-Socialist. Tonight marks the end of the bought out, boomer establishment Democrats.&#8221;
In a social media post, the group added, “WATCH OUT CHUCK SCHUMER!! YOUNG PEOPLE HAVE TAKEN OVER THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY!!!” 
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) did not endorse Mamdani for mayor. 
Valdez and Chevalier are members of the Democratic Socialists of America, while Lander previously belonged to the organization before leaving following disagreements over its response to the October 7 Hamas attacks.
Valdez has <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/mamdani-backed-socialist-prevails-crowded-primary-replace-retiring-rep">called</a> for abolishing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, expanding universal healthcare, increasing taxes on higher earners, and strengthening labor unions. Chevalier has advocated abolishing police, prisons, and national borders.

Mamdani said he had not seen the controversial posts before endorsing Chevalier but stood by his decision after they became public. Defending his endorsement, he told CNN, &#8220;In Congress, she&#8217;ll take on corporate greed, bad landlords, and D.C.&#8217;s broken political system. At a time when power is concentrated in fewer and fewer hands, Darializa will fight in Congress for New York City&#8217;s working families. She&#8217;s the champion we need for a city New Yorkers can actually afford.&#8221;
Mamdani&#8217;s wife, Rama Duwaji, also publicly encouraged her Instagram followers to support Valdez and Chevalier, but she did not post an endorsement of Lander. Resurfaced social media activity from Duwaji has drawn criticism, including posts in which she questioned Israel’s legitimacy and <a href="https://www.thefp.com/p/nyc-first-lady-liked-post-oct-7-rape-hoax">liked</a> an Instagram post that described allegations of sexual violence on October 7 as a “mass rape hoax.”

Pretending to be part of the Islamic Republic’s national soccer team, a man with connections to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) tried to enter the United States, according to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin. 
“They tried to get someone in yesterday &#8230; he was supposed to be the president of the soccer federation. When we started doing the research on him, he had only been put in place since 2022, and we didn’t allow him to board the plane,” Mullin said, <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/video/6399018431112">adding</a>, “[He] had direct ties to the IRGC.” 
Mullin explained that World Cup teams typically comprise 120 people, including players, support staff, and coaches. The United States accepted fewer than half that number into the country for Iran ahead of its match in Los Angeles. 
“We accepted 53 individuals coming in, the rest of the individuals that Iran had tried to bring in, all also had direct ties to the IRGC and aren’t their normal traveling group. So, these games that Iran plays, unfortunately, makes them an adversary that you cannot trust,&#8221; Mullin said. 
The news comes as negotiations with Iran appear to be regaining momentum after a tense weekend that threatened to derail the talks. Iranian officials warned they could close the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route, prompting a stern warning from President Donald Trump. “You close it and you won&#8217;t have a country. You won&#8217;t even make it back to your f*cking country.&#8221;
Vice President JD Vance is currently in Switzerland leading negotiations with Iranian officials and said on Monday morning, “Yesterday was a very, very good day. We made a lot of good progress.”

“That is a major milestone for the American people and the first step in permanently ending a nuclear weapons program in Iran,&#8221; Vance said.
Following the vice president&#8217;s announcement, the Treasury Department lifted sanctions on Iranian oil for 60 days. 
“In line with the ongoing productive talks in Switzerland. Iran has committed to free and open transit in the Strait of Hormuz and to permit International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors into their country,” <a href="https://x.com/SecScottBessent/status/2069048901185810867">said</a> Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. “As part of the framework, Treasury has issued a temporary 60-day general license authorizing the production, delivery, and sale of Iranian oil.”
Adding to the push, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced Monday that he will travel to the Middle East this week, where he is expected to meet with regional allies to discuss shared priorities and security.
